I compared the cost of a gas RV to the Lightning towing a trailer of the same size/capacity.
$500/fillup. That is a factual amount for filling a 32' gas powered class A/B RV with same capacity as a 27' travel trailer.
I've easily spent $2K on fuel in a week of RV'ing. EASY.
Now, I spend $90K on a truck I can drive in the city, and tow a massive trailer while spending a fraction on fuel, and in most cases, $200 in charging for the same trip that would cost me thousands in gas RV.
Typical RV rental is hundreds/day more than trailer rental, and those RV's suck to drive and live in compared to a trailer, especially when doing day trips when camping ... having to park and set up repeatedly is a pain compared to towing with a pickup that can unhook.
If I didn't think it made financial sense, I would still do it, but the savings is real, many thousands per 4000 km one month trip. Two trips like that per year and $5K savings/year adds up quick. Campsite charging will eventually be handled some other way, but right now, campsites DO NOT charge extra because electricity is included with the site fee. Blame the rules of the game, not the player.
