My Volvo mechanic when I had the '93 850 had a cream yellow T-5R wagon.

one of my dream cars - I want one bad. Would be the perfect compliment to my Alfa 155. BTCC racing of the era was amazing, some of the best and closest racing ever. Lammers, Rydell in the Volvos were fantastic. 850R almost won in 95 and 96...stupid fast machines.

If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

US$40,000 in 1993  :o

Still remember when these came out and some of the ads they ran.  Look at all the room in the trunk.

My favourites were the Nissan Primeras.  It's what made me get an early gen Infiniti G20.  Loved that SR20 engine..

yeah they were quick. David Leslie [RIP] did well in them IIRC. The Alfas in 94, and in DTM in 93, were the reason I bought my 155.

The 850R was automatic only in the U.S. but in Canada it was offered with a manual. They're very rare though.

Years ago I passed a 850R on a four lane highway while driving my 1990 Miata.
To my surprise the guy driving the Volvo accelerated and started to pull ahead (he was in the slow lane).
I gave my Miata more gas and matched his speed.  He then floored it and started to pull away at a rapid pace.  There weren't any other vehicles on the road, so I thought, "What the hell", and gave chase.
I knew these 850Rs were pretty quick, but I easily caught him and pulled away.

I guess he thought a Miata would be easy to beat and he'd be right, except mine had a V8 under the hood.  ;D

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.

that is because they are race cars - low and with heavy negative camber lets you corner better

on ordinary roads they would be undrivable. The trend of slamming and tucking in street cars is...well...not appropriate. Especially if they have any sporting pretensions other that posing in a Timmies parking lot.
