Die Großer Käfer does the door lock/unlock thing. "<THUNK> Ve are drivink now! EXIT IST VERBOTEN!" :)

Scarcely notice it now.

The ones that annoy are those which lock and don't automatically unlock.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Don't the door lock automatically while driving? Anything I've driven that was made within the last 15 years or so does....

Can't stand that "feature".

This x10,000

If I want the doors locked, I will lock them.  I hate these cars that trap you in, because the guys in Detroit are scared when they drive.

At the very least, let me decide how to set the auto locking system.

My 2011 explorer does not lock automatically, and it's a base model.

I hate that feature as well.  Luckily we could turn it off on our Fusion.

Higher trim levels let you activate or deactivate that feature.

The Corolla locks the doors when you put it in gear, and then unlocks them when you put it in park.  Simple and effective.

I really like my BMW X1, but it has one little feature that bugs the hell out of me.
When I stop the vehicle, get out and go to the back doors (or hatch) they're locked.  If I forget to hit the unlock all doors button on the dash I have to get back in the car and hit the button to get in the back seat.

I figured there must be a way to configure the door locks so all the doors unlock when the driver's side door is opened.
Nope.  Dealer said it can't be done.

Do all other vehicles have this stupid feature?

I'm fairly certain you can configure this through the iDrive.  I've configured my 3 series so that it doesn't lock when I'm driving.  I end up locking it when I've got kids in the car because it seems like they're always trying to kill themselves...

Mine is a near bare bones X1.  No iDrive.

It is configured thru the Board Computer options, via the indcator stalk. Vehicle has to be stationary, of course.

Same here.  If there one modern feature that I literally can't stand, this one would be it.  Thankfully most models now let you to disable it.  Like TP stated, if I want to lock the damn doors, I will.

isn't that crazy? canada celebrating it's 150th.... canadians didn't exist before that. yet we act like we are the locals...

The whole War of 1812, "We burned down the White House" crap drives me nuts.  There was no "Canada" as we know it in 1812...

yes, it was not a country...but it was a colony as part of the British Empire. Many of the soldiers and sailors stationed in the area that took part in the war eventually became "Canadians"...or at least their kids did...

You are correct, but there is a grey area there that people could lay claim...like what Americans do with pre-1776 history, or Germans with pre-1870....etc. etc.

As a Newfoundlander whose parents were born in 1946, I feel very little connection to anything that happened in Canada prior to 1949...

well you are dealing with times that are almost out of living memory, and with abstract concepts such as "country" and "citizenship" etc. - so I am not surprised at how you feel

1600s here!

*EDIT* was looking a wrong relative. Early 1720s.  Farthest ancestor we've traced back was born in 1642 in France.

First ancestor born in Canada was 1749 in Lac Des Deux Montagne, Quebec.

My family has been here since the mid '70s. Quite different from most of the people I grew up around here in the Maritimes.

Yep, earliest ancestor I can find moved over to Grand Manan Is from Maine in the 1760's. The Irish side came in the 1840's
