Interesting opportunity to be able to ask some questions to a major car company manage and I believe engineer (Honda Canada's Manager of Product Planning).

In regards to "Revs and Redlines" the ideal would be high low end torque #'s via electric motor or diesel paired with a high free revving engine like that of the Honda F22C1 engine.

Curious on his thoughts regarding electric turbo's and FSI engines.

IMO after they kaiboshed the K20 engine in the Civic SI, they shouldn't be able to include the new 2.4 in their 'high revving' philosophy.

I would have liked to hear his thoughts on the emergence of the small displacement turbo engine. While powerful, the small turbos all make the bulk of their power across the mid-range and lose steam well before their actual redlines. Of course, any review of the Fiesta or Focus ST will quickly point out that this does not diminish the fun...

There seems to be fewer and fewer NA high revving engines available in any car at any price.

Really neat article for someone like me.  I mean, nothing that I didn't know, but still fun to read the interview!

I still want the BMW 1.5T that made >1,300hp but couldn't last a race.  I'd be ok if they boiled it down to, say, 900hp ;)

I was thinking the other day when I was reading the Miata review....How much fun would the Miata be with the engine from 06-12 Civic Si?

EDIT:  So, apparently I'm not the only one who's had this thought.  Somebody swapped a K24 from an S2000 into a Miata.

Here's the condensed version in article form:
http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/04/the-miata-you-wish-you-built/

He even used his experience to make a kit for it, should you have a spare NB chassis and K24 lying around (Snowman, you feel like hacking your S2000 apart?)

Thats the thing I like about VTEC motors drive them slow they get good MPG, and work well (if a little lacking in torque).  Run up the RPMs and the thing feels like an old time Turbo without the related hassles.

nothing really meaningful came out of the interview, just marketing mumble jumble...and the mentioning of past HONDA glories (NSX, S2000) has nothing to do the current Honda philosophy (CRZ...*puke)...
I am afraid it is nothing but a recording from the PR machine...

Honda VTEC - all the lag, none of the boost.  It's like waiting for bad sex, and then it's over so quickly.  ;)

I LOVE high Revving engine, in fact, I am driving a 2008 Honda civic Si sedan , with double car seats at the back for my two daughters and they also love the VTEC screaming.

But, when I look at the current Honda Acura line up , I got NOTHING TO replace my Si! NOTHING. There is ZERO high revving Engine. NONE of the Honda / Acura are having 8000 rpm redline nowadays, let alone 9000rpm on the S2000.

Even Toyota/Subaru has a FRS/BRZ  combo with DI NA high revving engine, what is Honda doing nowadays ....  ??? ??? ???

Looks like this article should have been featured 20 years ago.  VTEC is so passe now, every manufacturer has variable valve timing in one form or the other now.  Honda just isn't what it used to be.  In fact the current line of Civic is just about as boring as the Chevy Cavalier in the 80s and 90s.

Yup,  Honda lost my interest as an enthusiast when they dropped the S2000 and put the CRV's engine in the Civic SI.

I'm still interested in them in my capacity as a family man, but that's mainly just for the Accord.
