Best vehicle in the Hyundai lineup right now without a doubt.  And a heck of an appealing choice market-wide for a compact sporty sedan.

Observed fuel consumption seems high, but then even small turbos will chug gas if you are in full-time fast and furious mode.  Also, you have your city/hwy/combined numbers mixed up.

Fuel efficiency didn’t seem to suffer despite my bad behaviour, with the car delivering an observed 15 L/100 km in mixed driving that made heavy use of the lower end of the gearbox.

typo?  even Subaru STI isn't close to that.  my 2011wrx is always 9-11L range and new wrx are 8-10L range.

The observed F/E is impressive. I average 7.5 L/100 km in mine in mixed, relatively heavy-foot driving :rofl2:

The observed fuel consumption of 15L/100km must be a typo  or something is wrong with the car or the way it was driven (abused). Even with a heavy foot, on public roads, this is a very high fuel consumption.

the testers are usually driven with a heavy foot, especially if it something with a turbo (which is fun to be in boost)...it would be in no way indicative of what a regular person would expect to see on a regular day (at least after a few weeks of ownership, once the initial turbo runs aren't done on a regular basis)...a couple of people in here have this car, and likely share their results, driven in a more "normal" manner.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

That's more in keeping with my expectation.  15 is a number I see in the worst driving conditions for my much larger / heavier car with a BIG V6 chugging gas.

Patrick, what is the recommended fuel for the 1.6T , premium I assume?  Can it run on regular with reduced power?

Looking forward to seeing the Elantra GT Sport in person.  Hopefully it hits the sweet spot in between the Golf 1.8T/Mazda3 GT/Civic hatch and the GTI/Focus ST.

recommended fuel for all the Hyundai and Kia Turbo engines is regular unleaded...the important thing is to use a quality fuel (Top Tier), but that should always be done regardless...if you would like to use Premium, you certainly can (it won't hurt the engine in any way).

The 1.6T is rated on regular.
