Not many left, and they have their own set of costly issues.

Oh, I know. Forgive me for looking for a win.

Thanks to the warranty, the issues won't be costly. Just a pain.

Do you have symptoms of a failing pump?

Do you have symptoms of a failing pump?

When you try to pump gas, the nozzle will kick back after few litters (more or less depending on how bad the suction pump is) like the tank is full and you will hear a gurgling noise from the tank for a while. You can potentially smell gas around the car, or even see gas dripping from the wheel well.

According to the docs I read (official Audi papers that came in), the car can even puke the fuel and shower you while you're attempting to fill-up. Fun.

Yes, that too I guess in certain conditions.

The issue itself is not a big deal, but the fact VW doesn't cover the consequential damage by default is what annoys me.

12 calendar days after I opened the case, crickets from VW Customer Service....
Called them up today to follow up - basically the message is no update, case is still open, don't call us, eventually will call you at some point (not even a rough ETA provided) ....

This should almost be a cookie cutter case. They know the bad suction pump inevitably takes the charcoal canister with it, so what's there to "investigate" other than a call to the dealership which can confirm the consequential damage (it's on the invoice already)?

Fortunately I can front $1,850 for the repair, but I would imagine there are some people out there that might not.... and those people will probably never buy a VW again. I know this is not specific to VW - all car companies have same MO, so I wouldn't single out VW, but most people would.
