Promo is over as of today.
Too bad Costco automatically includes installation in their prices.  :(

I think they will refund you the install costs if you just take the tires and install them elsewhere.

You pay it up front, but if you don't have the tires installed they will credit you the amount when you pick up the tires.

Sorry if I am being dumb and missing this but is there any advantage/disadvantage to ordering online vs in the store?

If there a discount in store? Can you pay with a credit card online? Usually all costco in store purchases are cash or Costco AMEX only.

I paid online with mastercard...  No idea if there's any advantage to online rather than in-store.  I'm assuming the sales that are available online are also available in store...

No difference ordering online or in store.  Same price/discounts apply.  Shipping is included in price, but only to the store you choose.
I bought online & paid using my mastercard.

Big advantage to buying online is no waiting in the store just to purchase - and affinity card holders can collect points on their tires.

They've always accepted Visa and Mastercard online.

It's $70 off Michelin tires now.

So, if you'd rather have X-Ice3's instead of Blizzaks, here is your chance!

Thanks

I will probably do just that. I can order online near the end of the month so I have an appointment for the first week of November (unless the snow comes earlier ;-)

Don't forget that Bridgestone has a $70 rebate starting mid October. Not available at Costco though.

Why? Fifteen bucks per tire for a mount & balance is a screaming deal (around here, anyway).

As long as they do a good job, which seems to be the case.

Pulled the trigger last night.

$713 after taxes including installation for 205/55/R16's.  Couldn't find a better deal on a top tier tire.

No kidding!!  Many places are now charging over $100 for four tires install/balance, and some are up to $150.  $60 is incredible.  And I've never had a single issue with a Costco install.  The tires are balanced well and the pressure are properly set, which is more than I can say for some of those $100+ installs.

Really, why would you buy anywhere else?

I'm just on the fountain tire website doing a quote for fun.  They don't have Bridgestone, so I can't do an Apples to Apples comparison, but I'm using their Goodyear UltraGrip Tires, which I would consider to be comparable to the Blizzaks.

Their price is $173.99 ea, but with 4 for 3 sale on, you get them for $521.97.  Their total install costs are as such:

Balance: $21.00
Valve Stem: $3.75
Tire Levy: $4.50
Nitrogen: $5.25

For a grand total of $34.50/tire.

Their total quote after tax comes out to $745.77, which is $35 cheaper than my Blizzak order.  Except my Blizzak order included steel wheels.  So really, Fountain Tire is terrible value, even with their tires on 'sale'.  Guess they have to pay for all the TV Time.

I don't have the receipt handy, but I'm pretty sure I paid $20 per tire for mounting plus $15 per tire for balancing last spring when I put the new summer tires on. And that was just regular balancing - IIRC they wanted an extra $20 per tire for Road Force balancing.

And that was for me bringing the rims and tires to the shop loose. They didn't even have to bring the car into the service bay or spin a single lug nut.

Wow...really?  Why the hell did I buy rims?  That's pretty crazy if true.

It makes sense, though.  It will take a tech, what, 30 mins to mount and balance four tires?  I have no idea what they pay their techs, but seeing as they're not really mechanics, how much would you pay someone who only does tire installs/balancing?  I figure $25/hr would be a decent wage.  Therefore, $36 to mount and balance four tires isn't outside of the realm of possibility.  They wouldn't make much money on it, but if the point is as a value-add, then hey, why not?

Here in the GTA Tires23 is $60 cheaper than Costco.  Plus I get another $70 refund from Bridgestone which I'll probably wait months to receive of course.

Costco advised me that - if you buy your winter tires from them - they will remove winter tires from rims and reinstall / balance the summer tires on those rims in the spring for...$6 per tire.  I asked three times to confirm my understanding.

This sounds too ridiculous to be true.  Any one confirm or deny?

I used to get that done, IIRC it was cheap. The problem (in Edmonton, anyway) was getting in. Appointments were difficult to get, and 'first come, first served' was like lining up for a rock concert.

I have the pleasure of being a 3-4 minute walk from my office to the Downtown Vancouver Costco. I just drop my key off, tell them to get to it whenever they get to it during the day, then pick up my car after work. I get a $10 added value too: free parking for the day.

Also nice for $1.50 hotdog and pop when I don't bring lunch or window shop to plan my weekend Costco trip.
