Autotrader problems?
« on: May 16, 2017, 10:34:30 am »
Under Advanced Search, keep doing searches on vehicles, and it times out.  Tried with two different computers, two different browsers.

It's interesting, as I tested with a few Audi models, worked slow, but it worked.  Then when doing Chevrolet Tahoe, 2008 and newer, keyword LT, times out 4 times.

No issue for me on Chrome or Firefox, on PC.
Also okay via my mobile (using the full site).
Try this link and tell me if it goes through:
http://www.autotrader.ca/cars/chevrolet/tahoe/on/etobicoke/?prx=1000&prv=Ontario&loc=M9C+5J1&sts=New-Used&yRng=2008%2c&hprc=True&wcp=True&inMarket=advancedSearch

went through, also tried it again without the link, and it worked.  I think my wife sabotaged a few websites...

Thanks for looking into it guys.

BTW, good work on the comparo articles!

Autotrader Still Sucks

Went to do an AutoTrader search....

Found link through google.  Same result using Chrome, Firefox and Puffin.

FFS guys, this is the main search result right out of Google...a place where I'm guessing significant traffic is created.

Click on Cars and Trucks:

And get:

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Had the same problem.  Figured it was a sign that I shouldn't be looking at cars...

This is just garbage bordering on embarrassment.  The Google Search jump page!!  Every other links works though....you know, except for the one most people use autotrader for.   ::)

I'm guessing they are using high school Co-Op kids exclusively for their web team.... ::)

Autotrader search functions are a joke. Kijiji has far more flexibility.

How do you do a National Search?

Kijiji on the web when you choose location only has various provinces...is there a National check box?

Yep, I was on there earlier this week looking for Boxsters and the search functions do indeed suck.  Not much flexibility whatsoever.

That is frustrating.

Update:
There was a release tonight. Something borked. They're working on it. It is a few hour's old, will be rectified soon.

I expect high school kids would do a better job.

Probably IBM Phoenix people.

In fairness, this is a big, complicated site that is going through a massive redesign to make it better for consumers. Including fixing search.
This hiccup is frustrating, and embarrassing, but I also know the team will take this and make changes to ensure it doesn't happen like this again.

Regarding Sailor's comments about search - I don't actually know what you mean. I use both sites, and found ours to be equally, it not more, flexible. Especially because we allow national searches.

What functions to they have you think we are missing or should adopt? Serious question, as I'll pass this thread along.

I don't know why you can't just take the model from Autotrader.com

I still don't get why it defaults to National.  I click advanced search, my postal code has been saved, but every single time I have to change from National (because I am not going to Vancouver to buy a Buick Envision, I don't care how luxurious it is)  to 50km or whatever.  It should have the option to save the setting, or remember them.
