The addition of the 2.5T is definitely welcome.  And it's still one of the best looking cars in its segment.

However, I can't help but think the new Accord will drink the 6's milkshake.

In terms of sales numbers?  Or straight line speed?  Or both?

If it's sales numbers, it's not really Mazda's goal.  Sure everybody wants to increase their sales.  But I expect Mazda would be happy if they could hit around 60k US sales yearly, and around 6k Cdn sales yearly.  Considering how sedan sales have declined year after year.

With these new trims, the actual transaction prices, Mazda hopes to increase.

If your talking straight line performance, yes I would agree that the 2.0T in the Accord would be probably be faster than the turbo in the 6.

But after doing so, it would get slapped for being so ugly...   :D

The Accord is.... far from beautiful.

Interesting the Camry V6 gets roughly the same fuel consumption numbers as the Mazda 6 2.5T.

I'd choose the Accord Sport with the 2.0T and 6 speed manual, but no heated steering wheel, so I'd go with the G70 Sport RWD 2.0T 6MT.

No pictures of the Signature trim? Were there none to be accessed at the press event? I'd like to see how they worked in that wood trim. Mazda's site doesn't seem to show it either - their "gallery" section sucks!

Crappy pic of the Signature interior:

In terms of sales numbers?

I was referring to sales numbers. But specifically conquest sales where people are cross shopping the two.

My impression is that the Accord is a much better overall package.  From refinement to technology to....  As it should be since it's the newer model.  This assumes one can get past the looks.

Maybe that last assumption is what actually gives the 6 a chance. A chance at viability- not dethroning the Accord, of course. For all of the Honda's technical virtues, sales are lagging behind expectations. Looks matter. Ask Acura about the TL with the bionic beak. The car didn't suck. The beak did. And now we have the Honda unibrow...

But the Mazda has always arguably been the best looking car in class....which never really helped it.

Every video I've seen of the signature trim with the brown interior, the seats barely look brown.  ???  Anyway, good review as usual by these two:

"Driving experience" better than Accord and Camry - wish they had drilled down to some specifics in support of that conclusion.

250 horses on premium fuel,

What are the numbers on regular?

A lot of the competition that has turbos also make their advertised hp on premium.  They all advertise those numbers and never post what the cars make on regular gasoline.  For example the Ford Fusion Sport only makes its full HP on 93 octane.  VW is the same way with their turbos.  All of these have regular as recommended gasoline, but on their sites the disclaimers state power ratings are based on premium gas.

I am glad Mazda lists both numbers so there is no confusion and customer can decide what they want to run.

VW is the opposite. My car is rated at 170hp on 87 octane, but APR has dyno results showing 190hp on 93 octane.
