Still in consultation, but will probably go ahead.

I'm guessing a nice 2034 Ducati will just go up in value!  ;D

Nothing that could not be fixed by a bit of careful assassination...or several  pounds of C4 in the basement of 10 Downing St.   To get rid of the whole cabinet at once and give up on all this silly stuff they seem to be intent on.

What idiocy, whos going to give up buying a cheap $5000 bike, new, that pollutes very little and uses little to no fuel or a mucho expensive EV bike that involves you having somewhere to charge at home...good idea Uk...good idea.  ::) ::)

Back when the 3rd or 2nd-gen CR-V was current, I saw in a study that it took 140 scooters to equal the pollution emitted by the CR-V. 2-strokes are mostly out nowadays, but even the cleanest ICE bike is dirtier than any ICE car, because standards aren't the same. I have no doubt that emissions tech has improved in motorcycles since then, but Europe is covered by 2-stroke mopeds and scooters.

Many bikes older than 2011 have been banned in Europe some years ago, and even Vespas are banned from some Italian towns. The UK ruling isn't isolated.

Here it's insurance that's killing the bike market. In Quebec, a bike plate is more than $800 yearly.

$800?!?!?!? What in the name of 3rd world, mob run shenanigans are you doing out there?!?!? Here its like $50 or 60. Sure, taking 30 year old, out of tune, 2 stroke crap off the roads make sense, they make more pollution than a dealership full of new bikes, but everyone to switch to EVs, naaahhh. Its ok for a mower and trimmer, but a car or bike, no.

No-fault. 100% of health / life insurance costs are on the gvt side of things in QC. So, our vehicle insurance is only for the material side of things. The Audi, when new, cost me 450$/yr for insurance, including new value replacement for 5 years. Bike riders typically cost society a lot when they crash, so the plates reflect that.

For cars, it's 200-275$ yearly depending on local contributions to transit.

fob had me google up exact plate costs - it gets even better:

125 cc or less: $298

126 to 400 cc: $497.71

401cc and more, plus 3-wheel bikes: $691.28

high-risk bikes: $2,022.01

And these are the high risk bikes: https://saaq.gouv.qc.ca/fileadmin/documents/publications/liste-motos-risque-eleve.pdf

edit - that list goes down to 1985  ::) SAAQ - our "DOT" - is filled with road-safety types, haters of all private vehicles. It shows.

I've driven few bikes over the years, electric bikes really are not that much different in terms of fun. Handling is a little different because of the weight of the battery and where it is placed, but that is about it. ICE is coming to end, in the near future they be whole generation who have never experience ICE and would become electric enthusiast where they gush over amount of volts.

One thing though, we should banned the cruise liner. I just thought  I'd throw that out randomly.

Ohhh, you were talking about insurance. I know for my bike its ~$350/year and a ~$50 registration fee. When I enquired about the KLR650, that would have been ~$650/year for insurance. I have no idea what the crotch rocketeers are paying but it seems here your driving record counts way more than the CCs of the bike.
