Wow...it's uncanny how similar the GM is to the Ford.  And yet somehow the GM looks soo much better... :stick:

at least the GMC has the proper shifter.

You can get that on a Ford too.  A friend of mine's looking at buying a new truck (he drives a 10 yr old Titan) and he won't buy/look at a GM because you can't get a console shifter.

Interesting, I don't see that at all.  The gauges (speedometer, etc) look different.  The vents look different, the infotainment looks different (Ford often has the 4 round knobs), the cup holders are side by side (my preference) in the GMC.

Friend of mine was the same but then succumbed and leased a Suburban.

Why would you want a console shifter ?

If you have bucket seats, why not??? I wouldn't buy a truck without buckets so really the whole console/column thing doesn't bother me.
Lighten up Francis.....

Because it useless on the console. Why take up room on the console .
In a GM / Ram the seats are  the same if you have a console or not

Why not?  For bigger vehicles I prefer the non floor shifter.  Just to have that extra room.  Same reason I like it high on the van.  Sometimes when I work my friend with the F150, I put my lunch there, or the invoice book is there, a binder.

I ended up test driving the F-150 today, both the V8 and the Ecoboost back to back.  Just some brief thoughts.  As for the truck itself, I came away extremely impressed.  I test drove the XLT Lariat as leather is a requirement for me.  I found the cabin at highway speeds to be just as quiet, if not quieter than the Tundra, with the overall ride on city streets to be a fair bit smoother.

Interior wise, I really liked it a lot.  The panoramic roof was a nice touch for sure.  The seats were very comfortable, although I'd probably give the nod to the Tundra in that category.  The back seat is just as spacious as the Tundra.  IIRC, it's slightly larger.  Feature wise, the F-150 blows the Tundra out of the water, simply no comparison.  Engine wise, I like the sound of the V8 but man o man does the Ecoboost has gobs of tourque down low.  I'm honestly not sure what engine would work best for my needs, but would probably lean towards the V8.   If I was forced to decide today, I'd probably lean towards the F-150.

Seems to me that my 05 outback had an aluminum hood.  Never had an issue with corrosion.
that would be a very unique feature for a car in 2005 to have...not saying it didn't have it, but aluminum body parts were not really that common until the last couple of years, and even then, it still isn't very common...as i just helped my parents shop for a new CUV, the only compact model (we looked at, anyway) that offered struts was the Forester (not sure what the hood was made of though)...the other main brands (CX-5, CRV, RAV4, etc) were all steel hoods...while likely not a big deal for us in here, my mother can't lift those very easily (she's 70, is short, and doesn't have a lot of strength for that movement as she's had shoulder issues in the past)...the Equinox was the only one we looked at that was aluminum and she could lift that one with ease...the Forester could be lifted with ease too, but it had struts, so i'm not sure if the easiness was attributed to those or the material of the hood.

Out backs had aluminum hoods to help keep the c of g lower, supposedly, though I would think the benefit was minuscule.  I think after 08 or something they ex went back to steel.

Have you ever had a vehicle with bench seats?  I've had a few and they all sucked!  Never again for me!

I'm not surprised you liked the F-150.  The new trucks are so comfortable and versatile that I wouldn't be surprised if you used that more than the Q50S for family road trips.

^ Funny you say that Tom.  After driving both the F-150 today I mentioned to my wife that I would probably take this on our next road trip vs. the Q50S.  More room on the inside and for the fam and a lot more room for luggage or other things as well.  One thing I really liked about the F-150 as well is having front and back 120V outlets........fantastic for the kid's tablets.   Not having a truck since my 88 Ranger, I'm extremely impressed by the comfort and quietness of today's trucks.  Totally understand why I see so many on the roads now.
