Feed a cold, starve a fever, right? I have a cold that started with a sore throat in Fargo and now has moved to head and chest congestion.

Ever try Oil of Oregano? I find it helps.

I haven't.  Thanks for the tip.

I've had decent results with Cold FX. Seems to work very well at warding off a cold when it's at the sore throat stage for me but is also known to shorten the duration of a cold once you have one. I think it's mostly Ginseng along with some other stuff.

+1 on the ginseng and other herbs. Really, for colds and flu, there isn't a quick fix, but the teas and herbs can go a long way in helping.

I travel with this stuff.  Don't seem to get a sore throat/cold at home.  ???      Available in every US pharmacy; Cold-Eeze

Only one ingredient:  Zinc

Lol, you guys are funny. When I was a kid, vitamin C was the miracle cure for a cold. Then it was echinacea, Cold FX, zinc, and now everyone swears by oil of oregano.

I've tried them all, and IMO it's all just snake oil. Do nothing, and you're feeling better in a week; take the miracle pill and you're feeling better in seven days.

Having said that, I can't even remember the last time I was sick. It's been at least a year, maybe two. Hope I didn't just jinx myself.  ;D

All of the above x2.

My parents drink this concoction of garlic and lemons, stuff is disgusting. Whenever I've got a cold my Dad always says "you must not have been eating your garlic" or "if you take some of this you'll be better in a few days". Thanks Dad, I'll be better in a few days anyway. Drives me nuts. If all this stuff worked there wouldn't be a new remedy every few years and the doctors would be telling people to take it.

I'll throw in gargle with Scope Classic (the 14-15% alcohol variety) and let it sit there 'til it hurts - I do that at the first sign of a sore throat and I seem to be able to stave them off.  Knocks on wood.  Haven't had one in a couple of years.  Of course I suppose regular alky would work too...but then you're gonna want to swallow it and then going to work in the AM might be something else altogether.

pure shots of ginger, tumeric, and apple cider vinegar

works wonders for me, any hint of a cold is gone

ColdFX is a total scam:

Quote
How long do you need to take Cold-FX for it to start working? A few days? A week? The product label offers no clues.

But according to Valeant Canada’s vice-president of medical and regulatory affairs, you must take it for a minimum of eight weeks – two whole months – before any potential benefit kicks in. The optimal duration for a healthy adult is four months. For seniors, that increases to six months.

“We cannot argue that Cold-FX can be used to treat symptoms that are already there,” said Maxime Barakat. “We recommend a chronic usage.”

That’s right: In order to experience any positive effects, according to the research behind Cold-FX, you need to take capsules twice daily for months on end. At approximately $60 for 150 capsules, that can quickly add up to several hundred dollars per year.

Lots of weight when delivering kegs so obviously accounting for some of the sucky fuel economy............but the Pathfinder was certainly never known for being fuel efficient.  I love it in the summer months when I can get about 450 kms to a tank.   :P
