Yepp. And just wait for this guy to come back with his lawyer and say it's too swampy, he was lead to believe it wouldn't be so swampy.

His BMW i3 is surely a fun car to drive, but the 2014 i3 has ~18kWh of storage, almost the same battery capacity as my Smart ED.

I rarely go 100 km in my Smart ED, but did so on Friday, coming home with "low battery" warning on the dash indicator.
The i3 is one of the most efficient EV's on the market, but the battery capacity of the first model years was small for sure.

The newer i3 with larger battery pack (almost double the capacity) gets a true 200 km range.

$900/mo .. wow.   No words.  Even a used i3 goes for $30K ... which makes no sense when you can get an e-Golf, Ionic or other competitor with larger battery for $25K new (with Ontario rebate of course).

Someone on a Quebec EV forum is taking delivery of an i3 with the Rex range extender at the end of May. His lease: Initial Value: $63K Residual after 4 years : $22K Interest rate on the lease: 5.9% !!!!
His lease payment will be over $1K/month and he will pay $10K of interest charges in his 4 year lease. I demonstrated to him that if he buys it, at 2.9%, the car will be his in 5 years with the same monthly payment.

Or he could buy 2 Ford Focus EV for the same price. ...

$29K used for the i3 with gas range extender, for 100 km all-electric range, and additional 100 km gas range before refill.

Having driven both the i3 and the Focus EV, both are remarkably similar at the end of the day. Ranges, performance, etc. The i3 is faster from a stop, and turns on a dime thanks to its small size. The futuristic e-bimmer has the wow factor of course, but at similar 100km ranges, the Focus had more value. Speaking of which, the i3 broke Edmund's record for 1 yr depreciation: 50% !

Agreed, and Ford is adding $3K on the hood of the Focus now. So in Quebec, after taxes and incentives, you can bring it home for $27K. If the Costco deal and the Ford A-Plan can be added, and I think they can, the final price is $24K all in. That would be my pick If I needed one now.

Well at least the 2019 i3 will let you travel 320 km per charge for $970/month.  :bang:

I get that he leased the car based on over-stated BMW marketing info, but for some reason I'm having difficulty being sympathetic.  It's common knowledge that Tesla, Nissan and others selling EVs state absolute maximum range based on ideal conditions and EV owners should expect their range to typically be less.

Maybe we need some Transport Canada testing and published range figures?

Don't most range estimates come with a huge asterisk explaining that temperature, conditions, driving style, traffic...blah blah blah...will affect them??!?!?!
Lighten up Francis.....

The range stated is coming from a standardized test. It used to be as you said but lately it is much improved, maybe the test parameters have been changed to be more realistic. The Bolt and the Ioniq easily surpass their advertized range and the current Focus is right on the money. This being said, in winter time the range will easily drop 40%.
