I don't get the dash, it shows 4 C?  (doesn't that mean it's 4 Celsius outside?), then it shows MPH as the main unit of speed (which is for the USA), then the text above is in French.  Why not just leave it in English if your in the USA?  Does she prefer Metric?
I've gotten to the point where I really can't work in miles, and the metric isn't quite so easy to read on her car. So I switch it all over, and then change it back and delete my phone pairing in the Bluetooth when I leave.

It's been roughly 10 years since I went metric. If a co-worker tells me it's 55°F outside I have to mentally flip it over to 13°. And if I'm coming up hot into the next corner and think "that's a corner I can take at 80".......i like to glance at the digital speed and aim for something below 90

Not my car & not really me doing it all. My Dad hadn't changed over my Mom's winter tires yet and this morning my boys & my nephew were asking her to take them to Toys R Us for some boxing day shopping. So I told them to change her tires & then she might take them. Do they did it in the garage now.

Gurgie, that's awesome.  Way to farm them out.

Today I set up the block heater timer for the Golf.  And I filled the tank and put in some fuel additive.  Bring on the cold!

I used the new Garant snow clearing brush that I gave to my wife for Christmas (thanks Rrocket) cleaned off my Explorer so my daughter could take it to work, since the streets weren’t plowed.

Plugged it in.  It's about 10 degrees warmer inside at -17C.

You cost me 60 bucks you bugger.  Got one for my wife and one for me a week ago.  Used the heck out of them since with all the snow we've had.  Works great.  ;D

Ha! I think the ability that allows you to clear snow off the car so quickly will SAVE you money!

Glad they're working out for you.

Don't worry.  It's under an impenetrable snow bank hardened by the -30 weather and frozen solid with a glaze of ice.  Hope you have a snow brush in your carry-on.

No me...but a friend.  His wife's BMW wasn't shifting as nice as before.  It's a few years old...maybe a 2008 or so.  It's one of the one's with no dipsticks for checking anything.  Anyways, the decision is made to drain the tranny, replace the filter and replace fluid with Amsoil into tranny.  So he drops the pan....and finds out that the tranny filter is integral to the tranny pan.  So basically, $230 for a transmission filter.  FFS....

After he gets the car all back together it shifts as well as brand new...so he was happy.  Except for the $230 transmission filter....

Mrs.Firm and I have both been off work since Thursday last week, so for Holiday travel & errands we've been using my presser (Caddy XT5) and everything else has sat in this extreme cold. I was a bit worried about the Escalade because it's been in the driveway the whole time, and a lot of our neighbours were having issues starting their cars.

So today I went out to try it; temp was right at -20C, started perfectly, no weird noises, nothing. Took it for a good ride to heat it up and parked it again until we go back to work next week.

It does have a NorthStar Pure Lead AGM battery in it; likely one of the best batteries on the market, but it is a few years old now.

I was a little worried when taking the Mazda 6 to Service Ontario with the buyer to transfer the ownership and change plates.  The car had been sitting over a week.  Had over 1 foot of snow all over the car.  I push the button, it was a long start, but it started.  I know it's only 3 years old.  But I was gave 2 boosts with the GC this week, on cars only 4-5 years old.

OMG....just checked the weight for one for my LS430 (I'll be needing abattery in the next year or so).  57 lbs!!  And $300USD?  Ouch.

We have had a cold dip here lately (was -30C but now in the -20-ish range). Haven't started the TSX for a bit. Has a new battery but they were known for having undersized batteries. Hopefully it is fine. The battery in the Civic is toast and I'll need to buy a new one soon.

Yeah, they are HEAVY. You can get them at CT under the "Eliminator Ultra XD' brand or at PartSource as a NorthStar; somewhere around $400 CAD. It's overkill in most vehicles, but they are sorta popular in Northern Alberta and similar regions. Brass terminals are a nice touch too, no corrosion ever.

Cars are expected to start in -20C. If they didn't then day to day life in the Prairies would grind to a halt. All cars should be able to handle -20 with no special treatment. At -30 is when things begin to change although I still expect a non plugged vehicle to crank slow but start at -30. At -35 and below all bets are off, that is truly the temp when things get nasty.

yeah at -35 our Saab makes all kinds of angry noises from a cold start. 5w40 must be like sludge...

I agree, but around here temps might only get into the -20's a couple days a year (or some years not at all) so batteries are not stress tested as often, people don't use fuel line anti-freeze, etc. So when it does get in the -20s, stuff breaks. My FIL's F-150 wouldn't start, 8 year old original battery, 3 neighbors had similar issues. Bottom line, people and their vehicles here are not well equipped for extreme cold.
