Great! Have you seen or road tested the FFEV yet?

Nope! No need, really. I've read it's not appreciably different from the standard Focus (which I've driven)...or any econobox for that matter.

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Alright! I've chosen my electrician. Great guy, enthusiastic. Came by today and decided having the charger outside will be easiest, most cost effective way. He also said "Please order charger with 6-50R" and encouraged me to order 40amp instead of 30 amp charger. This is the type of advice that was lacking from other electricians...that and them complaining about where I lived.

Detailed quote is expected in the next day or so. This will determine if I move forward with an EV or not.

So, any development on that side?
Gone but not forgotten in chronological order: 2019 Volt, 2013 Volt, 2014 Spark EV, 2012 Volt and many others before...

Would it be a go or no go? Unless you still shopping the EVSE? ... and the FFE?

I dunno...Still considering. Was hoping install would be closer to $1k before rebate. I called the rebate centre. Even if you buy the permit and get an EA inspection done (and it passes of course) you can't get any rebate if you install it yourself. Which sucks.

Then getting conflicting "advice" from EVSE manufacturers about this or that.

Thus far, the "best" company I've spoke to was Elmec, the Quebec company that makes EVDuty chargers. Great customer service. They also come factory with 6-50R plug.

But I'm not sure if we're going to pull the trigger. We're 50/50.

And the process is still a big PITA. And I've been on vacation for the last 2 weeks, so I've had tons of time.

Thanks for sharing. Don't rush anything, give you some time to make your own opinion.

What on that point?

All kinds of stuff. You DEFINITELY can't use a 6-50R plug outside...it will void the warranty, it's not safe, etc

Not sure if our cord will stay supple in cold weather, etc Stuff like that.

All kinds of stuff

I've got the Elmec. Not sure what you mean by "You DEFINITELY can't use a 6-50R plug outside...it will void the warranty, it's not safe, etc"  Not safe??

My 6-50 plug is outside at the cottage. Not issues. The Elmec cable stay supple down to -30C never had an issue with that either. And yes, service is outstanding! When I had issues with the plug on mine, the president-owner of the company came home on a Sunday to exchange it.

???   :shuffle: Maybe time to have a chit chat with your electrician to clarify the point?

As per EVC30 online datasheet https://www.elmec.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/EVduty-EVC30-Technical-Datasheet-EN-V1.pdf  UL/CSA NEMA types 3R that Elmec EVSE seem to be available with 6-50P (or optional 14-50P).

Here is an example of 6-50R (receptacle) NEMA 3R

I think maybe I wasn't clear.

A couple EVSE manufacturers told me I couldn't use their charger outside with a 6-50R despite knowing full well (per my electrician and you guys) that it's perfectly ESA legal and safe when used with a weatherproof receptacle. They said water would get in, it might malfunction, they'd void the warranty, etc. They could only be hardwired which is BS. Them not knowing this doesn't give me greet confidence in their product...especially if I did buy one, used a 6-50R and needed to warranty their product. Would be a nightmare IMO.

Elmec was NOT one of these companies. In fact, they seemed to encourage 6-50R so the charger could be portable if need be. The had an answer for every question I had an seemed to really know their product intimately. For that reason, I think the Elmec is the one I would buy. Plus Canadian company.

So, Indoor was a more complicated install process?

Aluminum Enclosure with 6-50R + EVC30 ? https://boutique.roulezelectrique.com/collections/ensembles-bornes-recharge/products/ensemble-borne-evduty-40-et-cabinet-exterieur-en-aluminium
Yep. 120+ feet of conduit.

I'll be going Elmec anyways

No, I don't think so.

I think I'm going to pass. Too much up front expense, too much hassle, PITA

It's kind of now or never though isn't it?

Can't imaging that 14k discount is going to be around forever.

I drove the bolt and was very impressed.  I'd seriously consider it if I was looking.  Its fun because of the instant torque.

Too bad. Hopefully Toyota will get their act together and release the Prius prime to Canada at a decent price. No need for a 240V charger for that one.
