I'm gonna say Acura RDX for the value factor.

+2 on the RDX.  The reviews are generally very positive and they're a good value used.

Talk to ArcticSteve about his Maxima.  He's got a newer one, and can probably pass on to you what his lifetime fuel economy average is.

It IS a big heavy sedan with a great big honking V6.  Still, 15L/100kms is worse than my Grand Caravan, also with a great big honking V6.  If it was brand new, I would attribute the horrible mileage to the engine not yet being broken in.

if you actually liked the jeep a bit, you can try the new compass... it is out now and at a few dealers. less polarizing design, a touch less money, no v6 availability... i drove one the other day and thought it was a nice car. it's a tiny bit smaller than the cherokee so it would be good for you there...

the other suggestions seemed pretty good though.

I was reading and watching reviews of the Compass that say the engine is a bit weak. Do you confirm ?

As much as I don't want a V6 or a CVT and as much as I'd like AWD, the Maxima is still the second most comfortable vehicle behind the Volvo V/S60.

Maybe I'm slow, but I'm getting the impression you want a Maxima.  ;D  If your hip can live with it, get it.  It's the car you want.  If you must have an SUV for basically health reasons then put the Maxima out of your mind.

i thought it zipped along pretty well. you won't confuse it for a v6, but compared to the competition, i found it pretty quick. only drove a sportage and a tucson right after, but it beat those in my opinion.

The RDX seems to be a sensible choice. Side bolsters on the lower seat cushion are not too aggressive either.

No you're not slow. An SUV would work better for my hip but I just don't like them. :)

How about something like an Outback or Alltrack?

I think ArcticSteve has a Maxima...

It's my wife's ride/ leased 4yr/80k.   Model is SV.  Currently Nissan is back giving these units away on a .5% lease with a high residual.  0% on 60 mth finance.

My wife drives 3.5 km to work, returns to home for lunch and then back to work thru town.  in winter she hits the remote start that runs for 10 minutes and then turns off.  Since fueling up vehicles is my department I reset the mileage thing and see 16l/100km.  This week it's more like 12.5l/100km.   Taking the car down to Toronto with me driving I see 6.5 round trip with lots of downtown p*ssing around.    So highway is great and the car is a fast passer.

When the lease reaches 3.5 years the negative equity should be zero and I'll be moving her back into a loaded Camry Hybrid assuming it will be a good leap forward from the 2012 version.

Winter rims are a real challenge.
