One click to open all doors.
« on: March 23, 2017, 06:48:02 pm »
While overseas I rented a car and was delighted to discover that it only took one click on the key fob to open all doors and rear hatch.  It his been a constant source of frustration that cars I have owned required two clicks.  I have a hard time getting the timing right and often have to go through the exercise several times in order to let my passenger in.  The two clicks becomes six clicks.  Yeah, I'm a klutz.

After coming home I did some research and discovered that many, if not most, new cars have this feature owner settable including my Outlander.  All it requires is some careful reading of the owner's manual to find the setup procedure.

The reason I am posting this is that so many believe that changing settings like this requires a trip to the dealer and there are lots of statements to that effect in Internet forums.  Read the manual and do it yourself.

I can change the setting from one click for all doors and hatch to two. All this through my infotainment system, very easy process.

Those who have an infotainment system (by whatever name) have an advantage.  My Outlander is a base model and doesn't have it.   Still, there are several options that can be changed by any owner who cares to look up the directions.

Airbalancer, I enjoyed the video.

This is a safety feature against car jackings.  In the early days of remote unlocking, thieves would just wait for someone to unlock the door and hop in the other doors as they knew all doors would open at once.

Personally, I prefer it to only open the driver's door with one click.

OTOH my '16 Ford Edge with Sync 3 requires a visit to the dealer to cancel the annoying auto locks when reaching 24 km/h.
