Why are some chains practically bulletproof though? Serious question.I get that some of the really simple ones; like the single loop SOHC deal in my MGs for example....practically nothing to go wrong. But what about something like the Cadillac NorthStar? Complex DOHC V8, two chains, 3 (?) tensioners, 3 guides, and I don't think I've ever heard of a timing chain failure on one of them.

In my day chains never failed before the vehicle rotted out. But there again these motors, automatic tranny always, rarely hit 4500 rpm.
