Lol, look at that thing. It's not just the Germans that :censor: it up though, even though they probably do it most consistently.....GM (3.6L), Ford (5.4L), Jag (4.0L & 5.0L), FCA (5.7L). Everyone screws it up.

Oh..and FYI, that's the BACK of the engine.  So you have to pull the engine.

Can't put it in the front of the engine where it makes more sense.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Why are some chains practically bulletproof though? Serious question.
I get that some of the really simple ones; like the single loop SOHC deal in my MGs for example....practically nothing to go wrong. But what about something like the Cadillac NorthStar? Complex DOHC V8, two chains, 3 (?) tensioners, 3 guides, and I don't think I've ever heard of a timing chain failure on one of them.

It's a puzzle. I dunno, perhaps rpm?  In my day chains never failed before the vehicle rotted out.  But there again these motors, automatic tranny always, rarely hit 4500 rpm.

Yea, but this is what you're talking about.  Simplicity itself!!

I thought MGs had pushrods, except for the MGA twin-cam which was gear driven?

Well, they have pushrods....but you still need a timing chain. Here's a standard MGB block with the timing cover off.

Yeah, but a pushrod engine is not a SOHC and therefore a much shorter and simpler timing chain
