That's an epic trip and great travelog. Awesome!
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Nice write up, what a journey- I'm not even willing to drive cross-country (or more than 7h) ! For sure, a unique and unforgettable way to découvrir the country.

Definitely! We'd love to stay longer next time and see more of Ontario and the Maritimes.

Merci! It was fun.

You should! Next time I do it, it'll probably be with the family towing a trailer.

How did you not fall asleep or get frustrated out of boredom in the prairies ? Everytime I an in the central part of the US (incl. Michigan), it boggles my mind that the roads are straight and flat as a ruler. Even the roads around Montréal (A15, A20, A40) have me screaming "ARE WE THERE YET ? UGH!"

Biggest problem driving those roads, the dullness. Flat, straight, featureless and a tax collector around every stalk of corn making sure that you are obeying some random speed limit made by an old crotchety guy in the 1960s.

I really enjoyed the prairies when I did that. The emptiness and lack of trees was different and very interesting. And I was prepared for it.

But northern Ontario, holy crap. Had no idea how big that was, or how much nothing was there. Trees, rocks, lakes, gas station. Trees, rocks, lakes, gas station. Now repeat, forever.

Great story.  You're much better than me.  I have several 500-700 km days so far this summer on my Burgman 650 and that's enough for me.  Now 7500 km on the bike.  BTW I get about the same calculated fuel economy (4.1) at speed limit +10 (high 3's when speeds are lower).

And your story about lubing and adjusting the chain daily recalled my 1979 CB-650 (non o-ring chain) on a trip through Quebec in 1980.  I then went to a shaft driven 1983 CX-650e and never looked back...

I actually felt the same, it was interesting seeing the change of scenery, even the subtle differences in each part of the prairies.

You guys went the faster route. I was thinking about it but then decided I was better off going through a more populated corridor.

I didn't get to that point until the evening of day 3, but I think that was more because of the long day than anything.

Shaft or belt drive would be nice for a long distance hauler.

I have to be honest, I went a couple of days missing a scooter, and I was looking at the Burgman 650 Executive. There was a 2009 locally asking $5000, seemed like a good deal.

Plus the road and scenery along Hwy 17 was spectacular.

Wife is driving with the granddaughter who is 11,
she has probably driven is a total of 25 round trip , the northern route is 50 km longer than taking #17
There is less traffic( less RVs ), also most  Prairie like ,  it's so friggin  straight making easier to pass
She in North Bay now

Great write-up!!!  That was a pleasure to read.

And I concur with Winklovic about the perimeter.  It's horrible.  That being said, the North Perimeter isn't as bad as the South Perimiter.  With lagimodiere getting an overpass, there will only be a couple of intersections with lights from Trans-Canada to Trans-Canada.

I also find Saskatchewan to be very pretty, what with the rolling hills.  Manitoba is impressive in that you never though you could see anything so flat.

Saw a low mileage 2008 in my neck of the woods last week at $4500. or so.

I am very excited to see these so called rolling hills in a couple weeks. I was in MB a month ago, and the only hill I saw was Riding "Mountain"

I know for sure they're along the TransCanada, in the southern part of the highway.  No idea what the Yellowhead highway is like in the mid part of the province, as I've never taken it.
