2006 honda civic LX puchased Aug 2006

From carquotes.ca
MSRP  20,300 (this was wrong, the MSRP was really 21630- I checked online and a few dealerships)
Dealer invoice 18879 + 1116 for automatic so total dealer invoice $19995

Reading up on making an offer, it was suggested that to allow a reasonable profit to dealer add 3-5% to dealer cost to be fair but no more.

So $19995 + 3% = $20594, I offered $20600

They came back with $20700 since the color I wanted was not on the lot. I said no, they said ok as I was about to leave.

Final price I paid, $20600 + $1225 freight + $100 tax for fuel comsumption (refunded after tax) + 14% PST/GST

Total $24894

They seemed to take this too easily, did I overpay???

Financing is 5.9% on civics, guess they can charge this since they are so popular.

I hate buying cars but was pleased this went so easily and quickly. Out of pocket to carquotes.ca $25

TO NIFTY6:

1. The idea of this thread is not to belittle other people or their presumed negotiating skills.   >:(

2. boytoys is talking about a Mazda5 and it sounds like you're talking about a Mazda3.

I agree with dorin.  You want to compare and boast about how you paid less than somebody else.  Don't let the door hit you on the way out.   >:(

I've deleted that offending post and modified dorin's.  That behaviour is not acceptable and not in the spirit of what this thread is about.  Thanks dorin.

Wing

This is where i dont get it. Can someone elaborate ..

I used your exact equation and the numbers show up as in my message.
" I'll start:
2006 Mazda3 Sport GT with Air.  MSRP: 22,695 + 1225 Freight + PDI  + $100 Air Tax = 24,020

I paid, $23,216."

But when you put in the table. You have missed the Freight +PDI  and Air Tax  and the paint ( You got a number of 25075 which is the MSRP + gas tax).  Then, they aren't mathematically correct (comparing apples and oranges). You have calculated your Mazda3 in the MSRP column with PDI/Freight/Trims but my Mazda5 GT has not included the Freight/PDI/Options.. ???

As I didn't read any of the earlier messages (Especially Nifty6)... What I dont see I dont know...So very well ! The system will take care of itself. :) :)

In case, if ppl wants to know. I made a firm offer of 29K (all tax inclusive) if ppl wonder why i got a decimal number. dealer have to work their numbers backward. they wanted to charge an admin fee on top without success.

I dunno if this counts since I bought a demo, not a "new" car but what the hey...

2006 ION1 auto and air (Demo with 8800 KM)

MSRP:  17845
Paid: 15145 (loyalty bonus and discount for KM's on the car)

I didn't actually negotiate anything other than an extra $500 for my trade.
2019 Mazda 3 GS-L, 2013 Ram 1500 and an EV that cost 5 times what my Mazda3 costs but is louder with a crappier interior.

2006 Accord EX-L

Paid MSRP minus $1750 gas rebate and 2.9% financing for 60 months. Only bonus was block heater (are these not included on Canadian cars???), cargo net, trunk tray, locking wheel nuts, and touch up paint.

I was a little disappointed that I couldn't deal any discount. However since we did the deal on August 30th, and it took them two days to find us a car (eventually in another province), I am happy. I happy with the service I received and now my wife has a new car. Furthermore, after reading comments from others on this site about being shut-out of an '06 Accord with the rebate and financing, I feel confident that we made a proper decision.

Nice choice.

Only bonus was block heater (are these not included on Canadian cars???), cargo net, trunk tray, locking wheel nuts, and touch up paint.

So...in Honda terms...you got about another $500 MSRP of freebies. That's not too bad.

What are booster seats? that  climate package seems pricey ,is there more then mudflaps/allweather floormats/hatch mat in the package

Booster seats are integrated into the rear seats...they fold out and turn a seat for adults into a seat for a smaller child.  Great invention.

I forgot the block heater. A Volvo without a block heater standard? What is the world coming to? ;D

4 years ago I went into a Toyota dealership with 15000 cash (well not cash but I was prepared to write a cheque). They would not budge on the sticker price of an Echo. I can't remember the exact price but it certainly turned me off of the new car buying experience. I don't know if I had lack of knowledge, or I was too young at the time but it would be interesting to see if anyone got an "entry-level" car close to invoice price.
