Chinese tire quality has been inconsistent and often dangerously substandard. If Sailun is producing quality tires the attractive price points will force the big dogs to reevaluate their Canadian pricing, which often reaches major ripoff status.

I agree. Judging by the fact the have set up shop in Canada with a full distribution and marketing team, they seem more serious than other manufacturers from china. They also have a massive manufacturing plant and are completing construction on a proving grounds.

For quality only time will tell.

One thing I do not understand,
this thread is about the tire is good for the price point
But there is no price listed ?
Is it $5 cheaper , or $100 cheaper ?

The thing is tire pricing in Canada is a rip off. For example, I recently purchased a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports. The best price from a Canadian retailer was $1650 (not including mounting and balancing). I ordered them out of the US for a total landed cost of just under $1300. That savings is helping me to get my wheels refinished.

Same thing for competition tires. I get R-compounds about $300 - $400 cheaper out of the US.

I recently pointed a work friend to a set of these. He had asked about inexpensive set of snows that were decent.

He now raves about the tires bang for buck/performance. Will have to inquire about durability in years to come.

I agree we do need some tire price correction here in Canada.

like many other items, part of the problem is the smaller size of our market...Michelin Canada purchases far fewer tires than Michelin USA does...the same goes for Subaru, Panasonic and pretty much everything else out there.

Hankook made in Korea, Goodyear Nordic made in China. At this rate sailun will be a "mainstream brand" in no time! We just need Cnd Tire to carry them.

Holy sh!t! I had no idea anything decent could be had for that price.

However, I don't begrudge the other tire manufacturers prices since they have to stay in business and back their product.

I'm sure Sailun is buying their way in and if they got to 10% of the replacement market, their prices would be no different from anyone else's.

I don't know about these Sailun tires but I bought a set of gently used Champiro Winter something or other, studded on rims for a steal on kijiji. Champiro are Chinese made too, right? They grip fine but the noise is horrendeous, like deafening. It's not the studs, it is a rhythmic thumping at any speed over 60 km/h. My tire installer says they are not damaged and that they are balanced. Our other family car has Tiger Paw studded tires and they are not nearly as loud. I'll tough it out this winter but that's it, even if I am getting used to it!

You aren't getting used to it, you are getting deaf. Don't expose yourself to noise if you can possibly avoid it. Pop for new tires now.

Our Pacemark (Kelly) Snowtrakkers literally howled at 60 or above. My 5 season old Dunlop Graspics are quiet, smooth,and grippy but a little "squishy" even in colder temps...

My sister in law had a MX-5 as well with Achilles winter tires, we had to drive it up to Westwood Plateau in Coquitlam for a wedding reception, the car went up and down the steep snow covered roads like a champ. Really surprised since they were cheap (Chinese?) low profile 17" tires, I wasn't expecting to make it there.
