Toyota has been going with some risky designs, and I really like them.  The Lexus designs have been exciting (in my eyes) and pushing styling envelopes.  The RC500 is one of the most stunning cars I've ever seen on the road.  Pictures make it look great, but holy hell, it's amazing.

But, with SUVs, people want boxes, and boxes can only be so many shapes.

If only that were true. There are so many SUV blobs that its not even funny. I like proper, square, utilitarian SUVs and they are far and few in between.

 :iagree:

This is where Jeep knocks it out of the park. Regardless of the internals, they look the part.

Even the G class Mercedes does it well, too bad that its only available in Kardashian/twatwaffle spec.
Lighten up Francis.....

Boy did I start something    :stick:

Seeing the three amigos there all parked next to another and all white, I just knew we had good thread material there!!

About the box thing - I'm starting to see Atlases out there, in dark colours so far, and while bland on paper, they look huge, angular and handsome in person. They break out from the mold.

^ I thought so too. I was parked next to a charcoal grey one with black rocker panels and black wheels. I thought it looked pretty decent.

Something like this:

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I don't think the current Pilot is the worst offender.

Its the Rav4/CRV/Escape/whatever the hell the Hyundai and Kia have in that segment part of the market that really look cookie cutter.

Those are the ones I usually think of.

The GM Lambda midsizers were particularly blobby too.

Oh the Acadia things...yeah, I concur. The first gen of the MDX was quite bubbly too.

At least the original MDX was clean. The current one is an overwrought mess, or as John likes to put it, avant garde. ;D

All these manufactures are trying to apply lipstick on their  egg-mobiles,  even Land Rover succumbed to the nonsense and got rid of proper boxy function over form design. Sigh.

I don't find the Acadia very "blobby" lookings, its pretty square in my opinion. However, I do agree that the Traverse and Enclave are pretty blobby.

That was a surprise disappointment.

I can't understand with the size of the Atlas why they couldn't fit an 8th seatbelt in there. I mean sure it'll be a squeeze like the Pilot and Highlander but at least offer that choice.

Same with the Explorer.

You cannot fit 3 across in any of these SUVs...

The Atlas is quite big, I bet they could have.

I can't imagine there's enough people buying an SUV that need to have 8 seats to make it with their while.

FFA.

The old Pilot has three belts in the third row and I can handily fit three people my size back there.

Snapped in a parking lot, three unrelated small utes:

almost all glorified baby strollers / old people walkers look the same...cookie cutter suburban chariots that you, your neighbour, and most of your street drive. No individuality.

oh and fake grills? A real turn off for me. Really pisses me off. Look at the new Civic, that thing is a terrible offender too. Fake everything on cars these days. Bleh.

If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.
