https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a43825376/2024-ford-ranger-and-ranger-raptor-revealed/

The 2024 Ford Ranger, Raptor have been revealed  comes with a new exterior, updated tech, and new powertrain options. The base Ranger now features a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine and updated technology, while the Ranger Raptor, has Terrain Management System and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine.

What 2.0?!?! The Range never had the 2.0 Ecoboost…it was always the 2.3 off the RS and Mustang.

No, not here. But the Ford Ranger has been offered with a 2.0-liter petrol engine Asia and few other countries, even a 2.0 Diesel as well.

But the '24 still has the 2.3 as the base engine in North America.

2.0-liter engine may be designed to meet more stringent emissions regulations and could offer improved fuel efficiency compared to larger engines like the 2.3-liter that might be the reason, and a 2.0, sounds smaller than a 2.3 to a consumer and may be more attractive to buyers. I think that is most likely.

Neither is an attractive option.  If one buys a Ford Ranger they only have themselves to blame.

Didn't Ford fix the ecobooms? They had a open water jacket with slots between the cylinders which cause head gasket failures. I think they got rid of the slots. ?

Apparently fixed in 2nd Gen engine. That was way back in 2017.  :)

From that I understand the first gen of 4 cylinders (Mazda based) was fine, the second gen 2015/2017 to 2019/2020 or so is where the block design is defective

2021 on they seem to be OK so far, at least for that problem

Which Ecobusts are you talking about?  The 4 bangers?

Circa 2018 forward Ford redesigned their V6 Ecobusts.

The 2.7 never really had issues.  Still it went dual injection which is mandatory IMO.  New turbos and different placement.

The 3.5 had major issues and got a complete redesign.  New cam chain design.  Dual Injection.  New turbos and design.  Ditched the preposterous plastic oil pan  :rofl2:

All things considered, my opinion is the 3.5 is a better choice than any of the standard V8s from GM or the ancient 5.7 "Hemi".

5.3 or 6.2 with that AFM crap turned off would be my way to go as a truck engine.....unless a Tundra with a V8 was available
