I could fully understand HOW someone could spend $60k on an old RR. But why is anyone’s guess.

There’s one local to me. A Early 90’s model with a full over landing resto done. Rumoured to have $100,000 plus into it.

Each to their own. But don’t ever expect your $$ out of them.

The prices are not so far off this stuff:

Refurbished/reimagined ones go for nearly $200,000!
I love it when a plan comes together.

Considering the Jeep Grand Wagoneers can go well over $100k I could see restomod Range Rovers costing a mint.

I’d love me a wagonmaster…but wow $100k. Last time I looked 5 or 6 years ago they were $40-$60 for pristine rebuilds

Values are all over the place, but a one-owner '93 sold on BaT for $70k: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-land-rover-range-rover-lwb/

Lots of sales in the last year in the $30-50k range, and some for more than that.

People are willing to pay big bucks for good units of  some of the old, interesting cars. BaT is indicative of this market I guess.
Old LR/RR are one of those cars for sure.

I was checking the pulse for old MBs (W124, W201) and even the average unit goes for a pretty penny on BaT.

The original V8 in the Range Rover is so bad though..Just dump it and get a  SBC crate engine at least.

Stop the madness.

I would offer $10K?

Our software at the shop has an interesting feature that actually tells you how much any client has spent either total, or per specific vehicle. I searched up my own records here before I owned the place and got some sticker shock...

So, we have a client who has spent $85,000+ in the last decade keeping his 2006-ish supercharged Jag XJ on the road. The car is in fairly good nick with maybe ~260,000km, and he's a pretty wealthy executive (looks a lot like Bill Gates, actually), but jeez. Every time something goes wrong, he comes in, requests it to be fixed, pays his bill, and leaves.

Have another client who has a couple of Cayennes. Sells real estate in Oakville, and in the past 12 years (records on this software only go back to 2009 or so)  has spent $100k between the two cars.

It's nuts, but it's more common than you'd think.

That’s something else! Some just really like their cars and spend the money no matter what. Back in Calgary there was an older lady that attended our church. She had a 91 BMW 750il. Had a bit over 200k on it and she spent over $50,000 on that car on maintenance and repairs. Her late husband bought it new (and for a good bundle I bet) and after he passed she kept daily driving it. Probably sentimental value more than love for the car.

My own aunt and uncle who keep their vehicles till there’s nothing left spent over $35k on their 98 Grand Cherokee. From day one up until 2017 or so when the transmission started going out. It had around 320k iirc.

^^ I guess I don't feel bad about keeping my old truck on the road.  :-\  In the end an individual can justify just about anything. What may seem crazy to one person may be perfectly alright to another.  ;D

My goodness. Those are quite the stories

I guess if the vehicle is in great shape otherwise, money is no object, and you really like the machine....still, wow.

Can see why people without unlimited money would get tired of those bills

Some of those numbers are staggering. Now I feel like a cheapskate as I wouldn't but $7K into the GTI that I hardly spent any money on over its 13 years.
