What did you do to your motorcycle (or bike) today?
« on: June 05, 2017, 07:21:20 pm »
Thought we should have a similar thread for our 2 wheeled toys!

I'm starting to prep the CB500x for dedicated dual sport rides/rallies.

As mentioned earlier, I've built a rear rack plate.  The support arms are a used set of Givis I got for $50 (MSRP $120 USD).  The plate is aluminum.  I finished it in black with a wrinkle finish to match the arms (doesn't show real good in pics).

The rear rack will serve to hold my 25L First Gear Torrent dry bag.  100% waterproof.  This will hold my rain gear, tools, clothes, etc.

It will be affixed to the bike using ROK straps to the bottom D-rings.  Once you use a ROK strap, you'll never look at a bungy again!  Best way ever to strap stuff to bicycles and motorcycles.  Cheap too!

I found the grips a bit too small for my liking..and I have small hands.  So I have a set of Grip Buddies coming.  These are grippy, neoprene add-on grips.  They install over your regular grips.

I'm having issues with buffeting using the stock screen.  Finding the right screen for a bike is a huge PITA.  Lots of trial and error (which means lots of $$ finding the right screen.)  The Madstad system is the solution I'm leaning towards (unless Givi plans on making an AirFlow screen), but at this point I don't want to shell out $400.  So I've ordered a deflector (which is claimed to work very well).  Price was cheap...so a good place to start.

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Welp, the new (to me) carbs I bought had a bad leak in the t-bar at the end of the fuel line.
Something I found out the hard way. So they came back out tonight, got a new t-joint and went back in. Of course, now I've given the battery way too much of a workout, so I had to push the bike up a hill about three blocks away and bump start it.
Then I rode it around for 20 minutes in an attempt to renew the battery.
Tomorrow I ride it over to the mechanic to get it safetied. Wish me luck!

This bike is quite determined to give me the irrits.
The battery is now toast (which is kind of expected I guess) so she's having some issues. I got it to TO Cycle today (using 80% engine power and 20% foot power) where it will get a new battery and hopefully a safety certificate.
From there, it will go on sale for around $1,900 and the first person to offer me $1,500 can take it :P

My mountain bike got new brakes today. I go through pads at an alarming rate, at least according to the bike shop where I buy them. I need to upgrade to a bike with discs.

Pipe for the RMZ came in today, won't get a chance to install until Thursday night. Stock pipe was damaged by previous owner and finally split open last weekend. This was basically the cheapest pipe I could find, still over $400. Stock pipe from Suzuki was well over $600. I'll post pics after install.

Tried that.  On my recent trip to the mountains my brakes gave out at the top of the last big descent.

I'm hoping so.  I went with just a slip on rather than full system as I'm trying to put as little into this bike as possible.  I want to upgrade next year.

Changed the oil in the G450X, slight PITA.

The drain is the one on the right that takes a hex key, the other 2 have tubular strainers about 100mm long behind each cap that have to be pulled out and cleaned. (They looked fine)

The filter is  on top of the tranny and while it looks expensive is kind of reasonable, a K&N is $10.    Poured in a quart of Amsoil 10w40, it's at the top of the fill port, it's supposed to take 200cc more.  Put on the cap, start it for 5 seconds, the oil level goes down and I put in the rest.

Now get this, supposed to do it every 10 hours of runtime.

Yep.  Some of KTMs race models were like this.

Got my deflector in today. I must say..for the paltry sum paid for it, it's pretty nicely built!

Installed the new slip on last Thursday (pic attached is courtesy of junior).  Sound is beautiful under load. Spent Saturday riding with a few buddies and their kids. Bike is still running flawlessly but I'm in serious need of some new rubber. That'll be next on the list.

Did a nice ride with one of my riding buddies up thru the mountains then snaking over highway 209 (clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpyOCW7XC-U). Good feeling from the bike, the pace is edging upwards, but the various other angles of the camera show I have work to do in the coming months. 200km this morning, luckily right before the cruiser bike/tourist SUVs & minivans crowd showed up.

Did a well-deserved wash of the bike (and car) and lubed the chain. Surprisingly, it didn't rain over my appartement right after  :rofl2: . Annoyingly, I noticed yesterday that one of my bar ends seems to have gone missing- guess the bolt unwound itself  :bang:  so I ordered another set. Perhaps I need to start using Loctite on stuff........

Set up the suspension sag today. I generally do 30 percent of total travel. Front preload is maxed out but was able to reach number I was after (42mm)...so front springs might be changed in the future. Back came in at 36mm...pretty common number for a street bike.

Here's my wind deflector. It works very well indeed...no wind in eyes at 90km/HR with visor open.

This is in uppermost position. I still look OVER the deflector

i understand the purpose of the deflector, but i think that bracket getting in the way would drive me nuts...maybe you get used to it over time, but still...ideally, i'd want a solid piece of lexan in the size needed...i understand that perhaps that doesn't exist for your bike though.
