2001 corolla
« on: May 03, 2018, 11:53:14 pm »
Hey I’m pretty new here, I’m a 2001 Toyota corolla owner and was wanting to get opinions about tinting the 3 back windows, mainly to keep the heat out, and privacy. But I feel like people would think I’m trying to make it look “cool” and like a “ricer”  but that’s really not the case (it also has a stock spoiler).. I generally don’t care about what people think but this car is going to be around for a long time still it’s very reliable so I figured I would just go ahead and spend the money to tint the windows. I need honest opinions, thanks!

I really like 3M Crystalline for keeping the heat out. You can see vids on YouTube with temp probes and whatnot.

Downside? Very expensive.  Also, they make near clear for your front windows if you want to keep the heat out without going dark.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Thanks I’ll look into that. I am on a budget though unfortunately so im thinking dark tint might be my only option. Just don’t wanna get weird looks lol

Don't worry what other people think...it's YOUR car.

An excellent alternative would be some type of ceramic tint. Very effective and much less costly than the 3M.

20% rear window

35% side windows

You need to do all windows to keep the "heat" down.

"dark" as you put it is 5% and all 3 levels cost the same per manufacturer.  Don't go 5%.  Can't see out of it at night.

Sounds like you do care what people think.

Window tint isn't ricer unless it's some special colour. Gangsta maybe, but not ricer.

Corollas are awesome simple cars if you need something to run forever and ask very little from you. In 6 years of owning my old 91 Corolla from 220k to 365k, it only needed brakes, clutch, alternator, and some other stuff I can't remember, but it cost me so little to fuel, maintain, and insure.

As long as it's legal in your province, go for it. Tints are not considered rice.

I had a 99 Corolla 5-speed to learn stick shift on. Reliable little beater, but burnt oil more quickly than my RX-8...

Does yours burn any oil? Seems to be a problem with 8th Gen Corolla.

Yeah it does burn quite a bit but overall such a great, reliable car. Thanks for the replies.

tinting windows is not "modding" a car or anything... go for it. it will cool it down, the car will look nicer, and there will be more privacy.

I tend to go 20% on the back seats and rear window, then 35% on the front two. just make sure that it is legal in your province to tint the fronts (some places like alberta have a no tint rule on the fronts)

it's a 2001 corolla man... don't worry if someone thinks it's a "ricer". it's not.

Also NS , no tints on front windows, they made my son pull it off when he still had Ontario plates on this car
