I was a little surprised it’s a little less $$ than I was expecting in the states.  Makes me hopeful it won’t start in the $100k+

US prices start at 64,250 which translates to CAD 85-87K at current exchange rates plus freight PDI and tax takes it up to~100K, unless Lexus decides to cut some pricing slack for the poorer Canadian cousins :P

But given that the cheaper platform TX starts at ~ CAD 72K, I would assume that the GX will start somewhere north of that in Canada.

Key words here are "starts at".  Look at vehicles that Toyota can't sell like the Sequoia.  7.8% finance.  On a $85,000 dollar vehicle, PDI& Freight in, that's $116K after 5 years.  $2K a month.

Now apply that to vehicle that will be imported in low numbers and wearing a Lexus badge.  Brutal.

Just ordered one of these for my mother-in-law... she has a '14 Q7 with barely 100,000km on the clock. We were shopping between a new G-Wagon (G 550) or a Cayenne S E-Hybrid. Both of those specced correctly would be north of $200K; and even still, excellent visibility and big windows were a prerequisite. I showed her photos of the GX 550 and she briefly checked out the sightlines in DriverJeff's '13 GX 460 and she was sold.

They can't be specifically optioned yet, but it will be a top trim model (I assume they'll still have Ultra Luxury) in white with dark caramel or Rioja Red interior. Will be neat to add another Lexus to the family fleet.

My mom's loosely considering one too, but her '09 LS 460 (the ultra low mileage barn find one my folks have had a few years) barely has 45,000km on it so there's no real need.

Is this the same engine as the Tundra and has Toyota sorted out the turbo issues?

The technical issue with the 3.4 V6 in the Tundra was with the electronic waste gates.  That led to a much bigger problem.  Namely, that one side of the motor was non serviceable due to lack of space.

No idea what the servicing situation is with this new unit?  Typically no one will know until these are on the road for sometime.   Nothing has changed.  New adopters are free beta testers.  To a great degree I have avoided this with motor vehicles.  Had some unfortunate beta testing with other motorized platforms.

Read it was fewer than 1% of units affected

I'm sure they have solved the waste gate issue.  But eventually an electronically controlled waste gate is going to fail.  So what happens then if you can't reach it?  That's the issue.  Is it the same on a GX?  Did Toyota modify the fenders?  Time will tell.  $100K CAD for one of these in Ontario.   :rofl2:

I bet it’ll be about $100k for the Executive. Have you seen what a high spec X5, MDX Type S, GLE, etc. cost these days? I’d rather spend $100k on this - at least it’ll be better to own than just about any other SUV of its price point.

Absolutely.  $100k is basically the price point for a decently optioned ‘midsize’ luxe Ute at this point.   The GX would definitely be way up my list if I can convince my wife into a body on frame rig (doubtful…)

I'm seeing 2020 and 2021's in the $60-65K range at a Lexus dealer. Are these the bargain deals of today's market?

Yup, as long as you can deal with how dated the interiors are. They are still very “nice” but well behind anything else.

I wouldn't even tell her.

I'd just let her drive it.

These drove beautifully and drove smaller than they are IMO. And that was the old platform. All of Lexus new platforms have been really, really good. So I can't even imagine how good thus will be.

Hard to imagine anyone passing up on the posh cabin along with the nice drive regardless of frame type.

This will actually feel like a $100k vehicle..or damn close to it.

The current GX with the tailgate (and wrong direction (Japan) to boot was a no go. This won't be a large volume model but you know those urban ladies; Gotta have their 2 speed transfer case and lockers.  ;D It's too bad the LX grew so much. Back in 470 days it was LX>GX, but now? Who knows. $2/L in a sub 20MPG rig? Rich don't care.

Doesn't the LR4 have a wrong-way-swingin' rear door too?

No. It has a split tailgate design which in my opinion is the best. With the glass up and gate down you have a sheltered place to sit to put on boots etc.. With the glass down you can stand on the tailgate to access the roof. The older LX's had this too, replaced by a cost cutting one piece design.

Ah!  Right, like a Range Rover.  Weird that they went to the swinging door for the Defender now .
