In a much much lower price (and skill!) range than most of you, but I went in to get a few things fixed on my existing bike, and tried a Norco Storm 9.2.... quite tempted.
DO IT!
As to price and skill....who cares as there is always somebody better. Get out there and ride and enjoy it. Live is short.
You're exactly right about the price/skill point, and that's exactly the attitude I take... while I'm right now only barely a 20km/h average rider on a longer trip, no way to improve that without riding more and enjoying it.
When I went in today, the bike mechanic (not salesguy) told me that I'm going to perpetually have problems with my rear wheel if I keep riding the trails I do - it turns out he saw me barelling down the big park last week. He gave me very reasonable points, and in fact told me
not to go higher in price range as I'll derive very little benefit from it.
... all to say I'll make my decision by Saturday
