^^^

is that a carbon fork???  (I'm thinking no way at that price, but it almost looks it)

you can't go wrong at $1400!

It's aluminum. Yeah, that price is very tempting. Come next winter, I'll have to have a bike and a fat bike is on top of my wishlist right now. $1400... that's not bad at all...

I've only been on mine once, but just that single ride has me sold!!
It was sooooo much fun and we didn't even have snow.  It was simply frozen ground.
A lot of guys are now looking forward to trying it out next summer.  (some of them have been using them as their main bike all year)   If I had to consolidate to one bike, a fatbike would be one of my two top options.

Any kind of decent road bike really, $700-800 range. What kind of resell value do giant bikes normally have? Only had mine for a year but would like a true road bike rather then a hybrid.

You might be able to find left over stock at a bike shop in that price range. Will probably be Tiagra or the groupo below that but that isn't a bad thing. Also if you can look at used you might be able to find a better frame and/or a 105 groupo.

Selling bikes is a strange game. Give more specifics about the bike you want to sell and I'm sure we can give you a range.

Also, might want to start a new thread as advice might get lost in this thread with all the bike porn.

Got the rentals today and put some k's in this great weather. The trails out back of our rental are for hiking but I said fack it. Just brutal and I never climbed this much in such a short distance. The trails were a tad risky as well. Will be heading out on designated trails later in the week

Went to our LBS yesterday to look at some bikes with my wife. Was a little frustrating...

First she sat on a nice Giant Anthem Advanced SX: nice bike, fit well, good parts, it was light and was a good value. Problem? She hated the colour.

Ok, so next she sat on a Santa Cruz 5010: nice bike, fit well, parts not quite as good, a pound heavier than the Giant and $1.5k more than the Giant. So it's out, right? Nope - colour is better so it's now top choice. Except that it's a pound heavier, which is no good, but can be fixed by spending an extra $1.5k to get the top-level carbon frame and better build.

So basically spending $3k extra to get the colour she wants. I told her I'd buy a spray bomb for $6.99 at Crappy Tire and paint the Giant any colour she wants. She wasn't amused.  :P

Good luck trying to win that argument  :rofl2: Same thing happened to me 12 years ago when we went his and hers snowmobile shopping. it came down to the colour.

you won't win.  but look at it this way.... she gets a bike... you ride together.
next step will be bike #2 for her, bike #2 for you!
and tis the way it goes  LOL

my wife is totally the same....  althought she's starting to change, partly forced as findind a proper fit is very hard.   She'll now actually look at components specs....   but if the frame is THAT pretty, it's "can we just buy the frame and build it up"   She's as bad as I am.    :rofl2:

^^ This is already bike #2 for her (actually bike #3 for now, but it will replace an older Stumpjumper FSR that will be sold as soon as the new bike shows up.) Bike #1 is a Specialized S-Works Ruby.

One road bike and one mtn bike each is enough for us. We're not fanatical, like some people around here. :stick: ;)  And I still have a dirt bike that I need time to ride also.

I think I might get a carbon Bronson myself, but not in the crazy-expensive, super-light layup like my wife wants (Santa Cruz makes two versions of their carbon frames). I don't really care about colour, and also can't see spending an extra $1,500 to save 2 lbs: it'd be cheaper (and healthier) just to quit eating dessert for a couple weeks. (I said that to my wife about her bike choice, too, and she was doubly not amused. :) )

totally agree, especially on not spending $1,500 for a 2lbs loss!!!!
however, you might want a #3 one day (fatbike!)   ;) :P

^^ You know, a fat bike is tempting. I see lots of them around these days and it looks like fun.

Still, winter is skiing time, IMO, and I don't mind taking a break from the two-wheel fun: makes me that much more excited to get back on the bikes in the spring.

we ski as well.  problem is the hills are far so we don't get out as much.
also, as much as I love to ski (downhill)...  it's bloody expensive.   you get a fatbike and just riding is free!
it's also crazy fun.    this year I've mixed XC skiing and fatbiking... doing both every weekend.
(my wife wasn't cleared for downhill most of this winter, but we'll finally head out on march break)

Bikes are ordered! Specialized Enduro Elite 29 for me and Santa Cruz 5010 CC XT for her. (Yes, she got her way. :P But, to be fair, it was about more than colour and I'm pretty stoked for her that she's getting an awesome bike!)

With a bit of luck, should have both in time for a March-break riding trip to Moab.
