Went to the shop to pick up some odd and ends and had to make a quick exit after drooling over this:

Snowy, I think I saw that one when I went to pick up my pedals - sweet!  It did not have a price tag that I could see.  Just as well....

This is the one I want badly:

Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

The Cervelo is $3999 - I looked up Snowy's - $3699 (not with the extra spendy Zipp wheels shown, though).  Both full carbon frames with Ultegra mechanical.

The Venge McLaren was $18,000 US in 2012. The entire production was pre-sold.

Wanting to contribute to one of the cycling threads but having nothing (other than loving bicycle design). Then I got this pic texted to me this evening from my brother. I think it's from a heart & stroke charity ride this past weekend on the DVP (could be wrong tho).

His bike pictured is a Specialized S-Works Venge Dura-Ace DI2 (electronic shifters). It's from a limited edition of 100. He paid a little under $20k all in for it. He's a keener, he has a second bike worth about the same.

That looks more like the Gardiner Expressway than the DVP but never mind that, holy fack on how much that bike costs!  :o

I need to google that bike and figure out what supports a $20k price tag.  Crafted from pure weapons-grade unobtanium, no doubt.  ;D

And if you hit the fall bike sale you should be able to pick up that Cervelo (S3 w/Ultegra) for $2500-3000 sans the carbon wheels of course.

I'm still a BMC fan boy so make mine the SLR01 and I only need Ultegra Di2.  Probably around $7K before finding any sales.

I circled back and asked him if he was exaggerating the price. After he was done giving me sh!t for asking he went on to say the wheels retail for up to $5k, the group set (shifters/brakes) about the same and the frame is around $10k so he argues he got a pretty good price for under 20 including tax. He also said that everyone in Group A in his club rides a $15k bike and they're not rich guys just fast keeners.

A footnote: he had to downgrade the wheels slightly because his wife wouldn't let him buy a bicycle that cost more than her car. Then he went on to to buy another more expensive set later anyhow.

I was told that this is a "wife tax"  by a friend recently  ;D I try to factor in these unbudgeted costs early in the discussion  :)

Can't say I totally disagree with that...unless it was 100% his money he'd been saving up..then he can do whatever he wants with it.

On the flip side...would the husband allow the wife to buy a pair of shoes or a handbag worth more than his car?

The foreman had his bike here today...as he was getting ready to leave I asked him what it was.

He said it was a Specialized S-Works.  No idea if this is a nice frame/bike or not...

As it happens I took a quick spin on the S3 today.  Not for me after all.  Very aggressive riding position and a very firm ride.  Not jarringly firm, but enough vibrations and sharp impact shocks traveling up from the road that I think I would find it tiresome on a long ride.  And long rides are the goal for me. I think I will stick to the "Endurance" side of the road bike field going forward. Now the Pinarello Rokh that I rode right after was very sweet - felt like a magic carpet in comparison, yet still fairly quick and nimble.

One thing is for sure - by the time the fall sale rolls around I will have a pretty reliable short list of purchase options.  Assuming I can wait that long, of course.  :)

Still working on improving the engine.  Another 30k loop at 5:00 am this morning.  And my effort to beat the "everyone falls" jynx lasted less than a week.  :-[  My own fault (like it could be anyone else's) - tried to get too cute and ride up the sidewalk to press the walk signal without unclipping.  Timed it perfectly - stopped with my hand resting right on top of the signal casing.  Then my hand slipped, and timberrrr!

If I had more money than I knew what to do with, I'd get me a new Santa Cruz Tallboy LT carbon. Built up the way I'd want it, I figure it would be $6-7,000.

But in the real world, I think I'd probably be perfectly happy with a new Specialized FSR Comp EVO aluminum for less than half the price of that Santa Cruz.
