I'd go 180, 170 gets a bit low and you lose efficiency.

there's 2 kind of thermostat, the 180(recommended) and 170....if I put a 170 would it tell the fans(cooling system) to turn on earlier?

No.  Thermo has nothing to do with your issue.

I suppose if the thermostat were sticking then opening, it is possible that it would cause a hot at idle condition, but it sounds far more likely to be a fan issue.  The fan is responsible for the cooling when at slow/no speed.

where would you guys shop online for that kind of thing? $300++ at the dealer.... no thanks

An online parts store or even try NAPA locally.  Try talking to a Toyota indie tech if you can, they often source jobber parts and might resell to you with a small markup and that might save you some bucks.

I'm having a bit of the same problem as you with hot air not coming out when the Sienna is idling. Some people are saying it could be as simple as air in the coolant system.

Bad water pump maybe? If it is not pumping efficiently would not circulate well at low rpm, bad for cabin heating and engine cooling
