Hi all, I'm new here.
Unfortunately, I'm having a problem with my Mazda 3. Yesterday as I was starting my car and then tried to put it into gear from Park, I couldn't move the shifter at all. I am sure I did everything correctly, turned on engine, braked and then tried to shift, but it just wouldn't move at all. I tried a few times (also turned off/on the engine as well) but still didn't work.
I looked at the manual and it says to use a screw driver to release the Shift Lock mechanism manually - did that, and was finally able to move into gears, but as soon as I took away the screw driver, it wouldn't allow me to move into gear (from PARK) again. So every time when I started my drive, I had to put the screw driver in to unlock the shift.
Does anyone know what the problem is? Is this going to be very costly? I'm going to ask my mechanic later today and see what he thinks but in the meantime want to see if anyone knows the answer.
thank you.
Nico
