A T8 version of this and its anticipated S and V siblings would be awesome.

Nice!  :D

I expect a full EV version of this one in a not too distant future either.

I doubt there will be a T8, but S40 and V40 T8 variants would pretty much eat all other sport compacts for dinner 400 hp, 472 lb/ft.

It's for real, on Volvo Cars Canada website. Boy, Volvo is pumping new models like never before with Chinese money!  :D $39,500 CAD MSRP.

I'm trying to judge what size this CUV will be.  Will it be more like the Audi Q3, Merc GLA, or will it be closer to BMW X1/X3?

I was hoping the starting price would be a bit lower for a "near luxury" product, but I guess it's in line with the Germans.

that looks pretty sharp... i think there is room in the market for a volvo offering like this one...

they definitely need to avoid use of the red side picture though... makes it look like a compass.

8.3'' of ground clearance. Pretty decent for easy off-roading. Our current XC60 has 9.1''.

Nice car! Curious about the V40  and if they will bring it to North America.

One of my concerns with Volvo lately is the premium they charge for their "T8" plug in hybrids.  I recently built out an XC60 R-Design and the PHEV isn't $5,000 or even $10,000 more.  It's $17,000.  Seventeen freaking grand.  Without any additional options or features other than the engine.  I'd still have to pay another $2,200 for a package with a simple garage door opener.

It's infuriating since I think the Volvo PHEV option is pretty enticing, but not for the cost of a fully optioned out GLC 43 AMG or SQ5.

I'm worried the XC40 will fall into the same group once its PHEV option is announced and like the XC60, a massive upcharge would be a pretty bitter pill to swallow.

Even with the $4K grant it is still too expensive.

Build and price is up. Seems to be priced in line with the competition.

well that 17k includes a lot of upgraded options but yah that's a lot of extra.  but the xc40 will be coming in a pure EV.  it may very well have similar space to a xc60 if it comes with a frunk.  http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1112862_2019-volvo-xc40-small-suv-to-become-brands-first-electric-car

i just wonder when this ev will come.

Which upgraded options over the R-Design?  Option packages look the same.

SO I was at Carling Motors yesterday and asked about the XC40.  They have two demonstrators on the lot, but no stock, because there isn't any.  The salesman said if I were to have placed an order yesterday, the vehicle would probably arrive around March.  This things are apparently selling like crazy in Europe.

I test drove a XC60 (T6) and an Audi Q5 back to back a few weeks ago. To me the the vehicle dynamics (engine/transmission and suspension) were not even close. The Volvo felt raspy and rough while the Audi felt like a much more sophisticated platform. The Volvo looked nice but there was some obvious cost cutting items as one looked closer. The front seat rails for instance are exposed in the rear seat, no covers,  nothing. It looks like someone forgot to install trim (maybe they did?) The hinges for the lift gate looked small and unfinished. Again small things but indicative to me that it is not at the level where Audi is.

The XC40 in the showroom looked great but is anyone driving these things before buying?
