The assimilation is almost complete...
« on: May 25, 2018, 09:21:05 pm »
I mentioned earlier that I talked my dad into buying his first foreign car, a new Camry. He's liking it.

Got an email today saying his wife needs a new car and he's likely going to pull the trigger on a new Corolla unless I said otherwise. :)  Told him to test a Civic and see which one she prefers.

I'm thinking he's going to get the Corolla.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I've spent a reasonable amount of time in the Gen 11 Corolla, and it's a superb product.  Fantastic value.  We'd replace ours with an LE or LE ECO in a nanosecond.

Yep, Corolla, the perfect car for seniors.

Yep, Corolla, the perfect car for seniors. And anyone that likes cheap driving!

My Dad keeps talking about selling his 'Rolla and buying something else, then checks his bills and realizes that he saves enough money to take a few great trips each summer in the S2000.

The Corolla is fairly good, but the Elantra is a better Corolla than the Corolla. It's much quieter, while the Corolla is fairly loud at highway speeds. Real-world efficiency is also better on the Hyundai, unless you spend more for the Corolla ECO. Honestly, the Elantra GLS at $21,xxx is excellent value for a good and reliable daily.

Weird, I don't consider the Toyota Camry or Corolla sedan (sold in NA) as foreign.......most of the parts and final assembly are in North America. Heck, I think some of the Ford Focii are more foreign than the Camry.

I had a Corolla for about 3 weeks. My real world fuel mileage was exceptional...Almost hard to believe.

We have friends with an ECO model and they are solidly in the 6s in all city driving and can see low 4s on the highway.  Even our old 09 averaged 7.9 from Nov to Mar this winter with basically no highway driving at all, all stop-go commuting, winter conditions and $hitty winter gas.

We took it to Robson Park over the long weekend and was at 5.0 on the noggin for the 1000km trip.  The newer model, even the non ECO, is a 4.x car on the highway handily.

It's hard for any non-hybrid to beat a Corolla economy-wise by any sort of significantly measurable margin.

I also got fuel consumption in the high 4s in a rental non Eco Corolla.

The new Corolla is going to be even better.

I had expanded the pool to include hatches as she thought she wanted one since her current car has one. Yaris, Fit, iM, Elantra Touring....and Honda HRV.

They went back to sedan...and it came down between Elantra and Corolla.

Got the message from dad today. Bought a Corolla LE with upgrade package. He said the Elantra was cheaper but they liked the safely features of the Corolla and she preferred the ride of the Corolla and the car in general.

Bought a Corolla LE with upgrade package.

Excellent choice.  The Upgrade Package is a great deal, ~$900 for alloys, moon-roof and heated steering wheel.  I'd go the same way.

That's a good value.  Congrats to her!
Seeing that kind of fuel consumption on a Corolla make me want to get a newer, more fuel efficient car.

At 90!? Lol...no wonder I’m always annoyed at Corolla drivers!

My last rental Corolla barely got 9...

I can imagine how this went;

"Did you get a Toyota yet?"
"No."
"Did you get a Toyota yet?"

"Did you get a Toyota yet?"

"Did you get a Toyota yet?"

"Did you get a Toyota yet?"

"Did you get a Toyota yet?"

"Did you get a Toyota yet?"

"Did you get a Toyota yet?"

"Did you get a Toyota yet?"

"ALRIGHT! I'LL GET A DAMNED TOYOTA!"
