Nice!

My long weekend consisted of sitting my fat a$s inside and watching TV.  I needed the staycation :)

This is the only vacation I get to myself every year.  At home isn't an option...

My buddy in Edmonton hiked the Tonquin (not sure which trail specifically) this weekend - looked cold and gloomy, but apparently never rained.

from here

to

and happy to be back.

many of you must have been there before, but i've never been so i write down some of my thoughts :

-they say it's paradise on earth.  not so sure about that :  fantastic ocean experience for sure, but i think i would be bored in 6 months flat at most.

-it IS a fantastic place for driver. nobody reads "speed limit" sign.  almost everybody speeds but there are some left lane hogs too.   "road to haha" or haleakala is the most curvy roads i've ever EVER driven.
at the same time, road to hana, i feel is quite overrrated.  there's some cool scenery and waterfall and stuff but this route took me almost 7 hours to cover, stopping everywhere where tourists were stopping, only covering roughly 65 miles.  it is a slow drive and it becomes quite tedious after couple hours.

-food is f-king expensive : how can seafood be more expensive in the middle of the f-king ocean than up here in the mountains?  our seafood gets gawdamn flown in.   everything else is expensive too, holy cow.

-snorkling is so much fun

-didn't know ocean could be that crystal clear.

-mazda 3 rental i had was ...  umm  very fuel efficient.  too twitchy on highway, but great dance partner thru the canyon fo sure.    didn't particularly like the car very much though.

-budget rental car company sucked.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Mount Lafayette = 5,260 feet which is the 6th highest mtn in NH.

You can hike straight up to the summit (3,600 feet of climbing) but we like to go the longer way by climbing up Little Haystack Mountain (4,800 feet) first, then Mount Lincoln (5,089 feet) and then finally Mount Lafayette. Bonus is there is a hut 1.1 miles below Lafayette where you can get warmed up and some hot food to refuel before the final 2.7 miles down. The total loop is 9 miles and 4,000 feet of climbing.

While its an amazing hike making sure the weather is safe is very important. You spend almost 2 miles up on the exposed ridge, not a place to be when the sh!it hits the fan.

People run this loop and apparently the record is sub 2 hours. That is beyond insane.

Here is the elevation profile of the loop going north bound.

5,260 feet at sea level right, 3200 feet actual climbing?

Yes above sea level but its 4,000 feet of climbing the way we went, only 3600 if you go straight up. Also has lots of nasty sections....

Nice! I'd just had a weekend at home 'staycation', with the fiance at work. Was great to just be at home, knocking things off the list that have been sitting there all summer.

Every time I go to Spain, I always spend a weekend in Andorra.  Just love the feel, hard to describe.

To me, it was unremarkable. I just see it as a tax haven. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of Spain so the twinge of Spanish flavour wasn't something I cared for.

Didn't know whether to speak French or English, because I don't understand Catalan or Spanish. I ended up speaking a mix of both. I've gotten used to understanding and being understood everywhere I go.

I speak fluent Catalan.  So that's what I speak there.  It gets boring after a weekend of shopping and eating at restaurants, that's why I just go for the weekend.  Would rather eat and drink there, then in Germany though.

What, you don't like being lost half the time, travelling on outdated/neglected/broken infrastracture, and eating currywurst ?  :rofl2:
