And here I thought VW was getting better, I guess it's possible they are, can't remember where they where ranked last year.  But hey at least they are beating Chrysler!

Seems CR and JD agree that Toyota's drop to last place is a myth.

I'm waiting for the Kia/Hyundai peeps to tell us (again) that their brand is as reliable as Toyota/Honda.

Although I have never owned either a Kia or Hyundai, the progress they have made is great, and most of that progress was after 2010.  Aren't these stats from vehicles that are 3 years old?  It would be interesting to see in a few years how they will change...

I've been driving Nissan since 04, very satisfied with my experience, yet every survey form went straight to the garbage in the sealed envelope.  Shame on me!  Now looking at the list there are way too many GMs in there, hell the HHR did well, something is wrong.  WTH happened to Hyundai? that's quite the tumble!!

Where's "easyrider" and his crew?

Sitting at the dealership room waiting for his Journey while it is up on the hoist for repairs.

ha!  nice...

i generally look at these as a decent idea of the market... but then i started thinking about it... how can you base anything off of 37,000 people who responded?

even if this was about canada, that would represent about 2.5% of the people buying cars... plus, some of the winners of the categories sold about 100 of the winning model... how many respondents did they get for those cars? and there is what? about 250 different models being sold in the passenger vehicle market? don't think everyone is being heard in these listings... and i repeat, this is if we are basing it on canadian sales, not US. i just don't feel like it can possibly be an accurate assessment.

i don't know of a realistic better way of doing it, so i'll still read this stuff, but i just am not going to be taking it as bible truth... or i guess, considering my views on the bible, maybe that's exactly how i'm taking it!

It's actually much worst than that, we have to take in consideration that the vast majority of people know nothing about cars.  Having been on the other side of the service counter for Toyota, Honda, GM, Ford and an independant, I know.

Hello - I'd like to buy a car with zero problems.

I'm sorry - there's no such thing. The best we can do is Lexus with a 71% chance of a problem. Porsche is almost guaranteed to have a problem. Everything else has between one and two problems.

OK - I'll take the one with the least expensive problem - which is it?

Sorry - we don't disclose that. It will either be a total breakdown or you'll get confused by something.

I'll take confused. Which is it?

Sorry - JD Powers won't tell us - you'll have to take a chance.

Sleazy salesman - this is the most useless information ever - you should be fired.

yeah.. i'd also like to know the stats on the particular models... number of respondants, means, medians and all that for them...

i mean, if 25 people responded on a rav4, and every one reported a major engine issue, it gets a 100...

if 4 respondents for a crv write in and 3 think its perfect, but one ornery see you next tuesday finds 6 panel gaps, or noises they don't like, it gets a 150...

meh... as long as its not the only thing used for research, i guess its alright. but i just don't think it means as much as people think.

Dealers get a cute little cardboard thingy to put on the roof of the showroom car, supplied and paid for by the manufacturer.
