WS80s on their 3rd season (V60) still getting it done, although they are wearing down they still have solid grip.

The Conti Winter Contact SI (2nd season) on the MDX have been less impressive. Yes, the MDX is heavier than the Volvo but not by much, surprisingly (Hondas are still hollow shells of sheet metal after all). Maybe it's because its deceptively easy to go fast in the MDX because it is so quiet? Anyway, the MDX has not felt as sure-footed as the Volvo.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.

Just to provide a reference point for those looking to replace their all seasons, I got a few quotes for my MDX (255/55/18 109H) from tires23 in Mississauga, ON

Bridgestone Dueler HL ALenza PLUS $1020/set
Bridgestone Dueler HL 422 ECOPIA $1020/set
Conti Cross Contact LX20 ECO PLUS $1090/set
Michelin Premier LTX $1220/set
Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season PLUS $1020/set

Price includes taxes, mounting, balancing, installation, and Ontario Tire Stewardship Program fees

PRICES ARE SUBJECTED TO CHANGE WITH OUT NOTICE DUE TO SEASON ADJUSTMENT.

I'd go for the Pirelli's if I were to get a set today.

I've heard really good things about the Pirelli Scorpion Verde.

I quickly looked up the 1st Bridgestone and the Michelin tires on the Costco website and they are about $100 less through them.
Was that installed & balanced and taxes included?
sorry, missed the taxes...when you factor that in, those prices might end up a bit cheaper (although, not by much, maybe $20ish)...Costco does include road hazard warranty and is easy to deal with if something happens, but those are decent prices.

I really liked the Premiers, especially the promise of "no loss of water evacuation performance" as the tire wears.

...except, the tires were sh!t at hydroplane resistance ab initio.  If they stayed the same way right down to 5/32", then I'd be b!tching and complaining about needing new tires from 10/32" to 5/32" :P

I wouldn't recommend them after all - so many tires are better at hydroplane resistance.

I honestly really do recommend looking at Nitto tires - I've had nothing but tremendous experience with them.

We've driven in some really challenging conditions this winter, both locally and in the mountains.  Large snowfalls, unplowed highways, freezing rain, you name it.  The Blizzak DM-V2s on the Highlander are really living up to the Blizzak reputation.  I'm very impressed.  I was disappointed when I was unable to buy the WS-80 for the Highlander, but now I have zero regrets.  The HL has barely engaged the TRACS or even ABS all winter.  Sure, it's a full time AWD vehicle that has exceptional traction to begin with, but now the amount of available winter condition traction is incredible.

They're squishy on bare-dry pavement, no doubt about that.  The HL is already a soft-riding beast that's far from sports car tuned, but it's pretty ponderous on the Blizzaks.  The poor road traction is worth the trade off, 100X over.

What blows me away is that the Blizzaks were also one of the least expensive options I considered.  That's just nuts.

Agreed.  Blizzak DMV-2s for us next winter for the new Q7. The DM-V1s which they replace were awesome.  We like the Yokohamas currently on my wife’s Q5 but they don’t seem as unstoppable as the Blizzaks were and which we had previously.

I can only hear humming when it's wet. Dry roads or snow, they're silent.

I had DM-V1's followed by the V2's on the ML and bought another set of V2's when I got the X5. I've been very happy with the Blizzaks.

How do you find the pace of wear? I am on my second winter on my WS80s and wonder if they will last until my MDX dies.

After 3 seasons (including this one just about to end) the WS80s on the V60 are 7/32 front and 9-10/32 rear. This is only 215 section width which is asking a bit much for 325hp.

Debating if I should keep them next season as is, or flip front/back, or just get new ones.

Does anyone rotate their winters mid season?  I tend to just rotate them when I put them on again in the fall.

We've put about 10k km on them this winter and will probably put 2k more on before swapping.

I’m having mine rotated today, but only because my car will be up on a hoist anyway for an inspection. I have about 8000 km on my new-to-me Xi3s and they’re wearing well. Normally I wouldn’t bother.

Sounds like they could've been rotated a season ago. Do tires on RWD cars wear more at the back or front? Just curious. Front tires on motorcycles last twice as long as rear tires.

Depends on a variety of factors, but generally the rears wear out faster.

Makes sense. At least car tires can be rotated.

If the fronts & rears are the same. The rears on my Porsche are wider than the fronts & will be due for replacement this summer.

........ Do tires on RWD cars wear more at the back or front? ........

The wear rates are about the same on a RWD, but the fronts tend to wear the shoulders and the rears tend to wear the center - making rotation something that should be done to get more miles and even wear.

Since my van is heavy and eats tires I think I’ll rotate them every 6000k to keep my tires even as much as possible. I’ll do it myself thought.  Our compact car I do it every oil change so 15k ish.
