It does not look like Peter Schreyer, long time iconic Head of Design is hand's on with Hyundai/Kia designs anymore. Vehicles designed by him such as the two previous generation of the Forte, the G70, G80,G90, the prior generation Hyundai Tucson among many others have that classic, timeless design ethos.

Opposites United' is Kia's innovative design philosophy, based on five principles: Bold for Nature, Joy for Reason, Power to Progress, Technology for Life, and Tension for Serenity. This philosophy was ignited by the EV6. Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design, is leading the charge to revolutionize traditional car design

Yes, a decade+ ago things were different. Even some Hyundai looked decent back then.

My 2010 Sonata was a great looking car.  Better looking than each following generation, imho.

This is one of those timeless designs that Hyundai and Kia have turned their backs on. Great looking car at a time when Honda had turned down the avant garde road. A Sonata with the V6 engine had a shockingly high top speed, totally unexpected from Hyundai in those times, story below:

Quote
A Hyundai Sonata V6 that goes 147 mph -237 km/h? Well, that’s the story of a 2006 Sonata V-6 rental car in Arizona that was clocked by cameras going 83 mph over the speed-limit. The driver, Lawrence Pargo , admitted to accusation. He was charged with four counts of excessive speeding, reckless driving, and endangerment.

A curious Arizona newspaper questioned a Hyundai’s ability to reach speeds that high. They contacted some guys over at Car and Driver to further research the plausibility. After failing to locate the original rental Sonata, Car and Driver took a long term Sonata V-6 for a spin around the track and to their surprise did reach a top speed of 144 mph!
