2025 VW GTI
« on: January 08, 2024, 06:29:31 pm »
Minor exterior updates. Interior updates include physical buttons on the steering wheel to replace the haptic controls and new infotainment displays with Chat GPT.

I don't like the size of the larger display. Looks too big for the dashboard IMO.

This gen doesn't appeal to me anymore - manual or not.

Every new car- “more tech, bigger screen, safety gee gaws”. Why don’t we just turn the entire interior (windshield included) into a screen?

Rear view mirrors are digital already.  ;)

So, how many of these people that say "no manual don't care" would actually go out tomorrow and buy a 2025 GTI. Not, I'd think of it but drive to the VW store and buy one.

The same people who said they'd never buy a Vette with "nannies". Then, they'd never buy a Vette without a manual. And now, they'll never buy a Vette because it's a hybrid..

Same people I think.

Hey, at least they listened to complaints about the haptic feedback buttons.  As far as more tech goes, well that's just the way every car manufacturer is going, so...

Agreed.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

Someone in the company did, anyways. Thank goodness.

Listening to the VW Stans defend that haptic stupidity was getting tiring....LOL [emoji38]

I bought a new 2015 GTI with a manual. I've been tempted to buy the new gen model as well but by removing the manual option I won't. I like the current GTI a lot but there's a few things that bug me about it. Not a fan of the colour options and I hate that the leather seats are these dumb two tone (three tone?) things:

Seems minor but they remove the "gotta have one" factor for me.

The manual GTI has fairly high take rates. I think it's safe to assume that without a manual options some of those buyers will go elsewhere (Civic Si, WRX).

Well considering I have bought 3 manual "performance" cars since 2015, two of which were VW's, I'd say the chance is at least plausible.  Would be nice to have the trifecta of VW fun cars, I have had a Golf R, GLI, just haven't had a GTI yet, and looking like I'll have to go used in the future if I want that to happen.

That's the case with me.  Id' choose the Elantra N over an automatic GTI, I just would.  I'm sure there will be loads of GTI sales and I'm not expecting some big drop off, I just know that there are some people who will no longer be shopping at VW due to this.

I kinda like those seats - preferable to me as compared with the unbroken black coal bin of doom that seems the default interior choice for most mainstream manufacturers.  ;D

Yeah I don't mind them either.  I've always thought they could have done a leather plaid version of the seat to keep the durability and easy maintenance of leather but the old school look of their plaid seats.

Are there any sporty hatches with a manual left?

I'd love another GTI and would have no issue driving the DSG (I loved mine) but the very tiny hatch got tiring quick.

I love manuals and I'm sad to see their rapid disappearance.  But arguing about the death of the manual when the combustion engine is on life support is like worrying about a leaky faucet while your house is on fire.  When your house burns down, your leaky faucet worries will be over anyway.  When the electric engine takes over, your manual transmission worries will be over anyway.
