Evolutive styling, not a bad thing in this case.

Red interior is back:

Like before, LE / XLE (more discrete) and SE / XSE (totally Pontiac vibe):

Those lower bumper designs are not great, but everything else looks okay to me.

It is the evolving gaping maw...

Bye bye to the V6. Remember when V6s were replacing V8s? The decline of society continues.  ;D

The front end styling is a big improvement vs the over-styled front end of the last gen with it's many creases and vents. Overall it looks significantly better.

The deletion of the V6 and the fact that Toyota haven't bothered to offer the 2.4 turbo as an option indicates that the days of having a halo/performance engine are well and truly over in this segment. There is no longer any requirement to sell the overall line-up based on the perception that the DNA of the performance model somehow percolates downrange. It's all about the primacy of fuel consumption and no additional complication such as a PHEV which needs home charging which many Camry buyers living in condos/apartments do not have access to and which will be superfluous for this target demographic. Toyota have distilled this Toyota down to exactly what the target market wants. And they will sell like hot cakes.

The V6 had an insignificant take rate in Canada, unlike the US. Taxi drivers loved the 2.5 four banger for its longevity (typically good for 400-600,000 km according to my airport cabbie), but many are choosing the hybrid whose longevity appears just as good. Now, let's hope they designed proper protection for that infamous rear motor cable.

Give people a V6 and next thing you know, they are asking for a CD player  :P

At least they didn't go with a 2.0 hybrid in the name of FE. 232HP is what V6 used to make 2 decades back. Plus there is AWD. So yeah, Toyota knows what will sell by the ship load.

Driving a Trax this week - the 3-pot sounds like half a 911  ;D The odd cylinder count gives out an interesting personality that's lacking in all these DI 4's

Speaking of the downsizing of engines, it would be nice if there was some form of power to weight ratio for each model year to see if we are going up or down and when the peak would have happened.

I too morn the loss of the V6, but I can completely understand why it's not continuing and that this new Hybrid offering AWD will be a very good seller for them and hopefully keep the Camry profitable enough to continue to make new generations.

I wonder if they'll eventually offer some 2.4T + Hybrid and call it the new TRD Camry.

Buy the IS350 if you want a V6. At least it drives the right wheels.

Think this is a great move by Toyota. Plenty of power in these things for getting around plus the bonus of great f/e. What is not to like. Almost makes me want a bigger car.

Great option, but back seats are basically unuseable for adults.

On an unrelated note, a co-worker in the division down the street from me just picked up an IS-F.  I"m gonna go over there at lunch one day and bug him for a ride in it.

I'll never tire of the sound of that V8. Loved mine.
