New article layout
« on: September 08, 2014, 03:17:03 pm »
Hi all,

Today we launched a new article layout.  Lots of design elements and time have gone into the article changes.  We know change can be hard, so try not to be too hard on us.

The article pages now use a larger font which makes reading easier and offer some new quick nav menus to our top and latest articles as well.

Please provide constructive feedback if you have anything.

Thanks!

I like it and would make the font even larger. Also I'd like the content of the article to load without pages - there's no reason to use them anymore, considering how fast our country's internet is these days.

:iagree:  I pretty much always have to make the extra step of pressing "all".  I don't think the thumbnails use up too much bandwidth to make loading pages a necessity.

As for the new layout, it's evolutionary rather than revolutionary, so it's welcomed changes (see what I did there?  ah??  Just like when cars are 're'designed?)

I read the article. At the bottom it says 'reader comments>'.      If I click there it opens a browser window or a tab (IPad or FF respectively) and takes me there but in that new instantiation I am not logged in.  Annoying.

Something's off, I have orange strips down either side of the screen on my iPad.

That's just a site-takeover advert, if you zoom out you'll see the whole ad. Because you're on an ipad we're nice and show you the site zoomed in by default.

Wrecked the site again! How much abuse must we poor readers take??

Just kidding.

All I noticed were the changes at the bottom to take you to the next page or the comments. I didn't notice the font size change at all. Pretty undramatic.

I would concur on the desire to do away with the paging. I know that gets more clicks but I too have trained myself to scroll down and hit "All" now.

The "You May Also Like" section on other sites tends to be filled with fairly useless sponsored content and clickbait from around the web. I notice this is all Autos.ca stuff now - hope it stays that way.

I just noticed this today!

THANK YOU!!!  No more "click...end...page up, page up, click, ahhhh, there we go."  Now just "click, click, ahhh!"

More neat stuff coming tomorrow... the final component of the envisioned article page redesign that we finally managed to piece together thanks to some excellent work by James, Jacob and Andy.

I can't wait. :D

Really like it!  I'd still rather the page autoload to "all pages" so that I don't have to take the step, but I appreciate the new "all pages" link at the top of the page now :)

Big photo with nice horizontal scrollie thumbnails. A most significant improvement.

Well met layout people.
