Now for some crappy cellphone pictures and commentary

Interior. Fingerprints are inevitable with carplay

The centre stack. I like how it's tidy. The cellphone is in the bottom compartment. Carplay Ftw. I don’t like the rotating power symbol on the volume knob. Might get a sticker to cover that.

The doors are well designed. Lots of soft touch cloth. Auto up and down on all windows. Like the felt lining on the door cubbies

Auto headlights and a nice compartment to the left of driver's knee. Useful for my Garage fob.

The annoyingly small front/back adjustment handle. Thank goodness I don't share this car often.

Rear doors also look pretty well the same. Haven't sat back there yet but there are two speakers per door.

Back seats are pretty comfortable even in my further back seating position. I like the armrest. There's also a ski passthrough.

Folded Seats. Not quite flat but close.

First option to fold rear seats: button on the seats.

Otherwise there's the lever in the trunk.

Multiple power options are also available in the trunk

Two stage cargo cover is included. Fully closed:

Half closed:

LOVE the hidden camera. It is so clean.

Front headlights are one of the changes for 2018. Car is quite dirty atm.

I really miss the hidden camera I had in the GTI. My backup camera has been useless for weeks now.

Yes, that is awesome.
I have to constantly apply a spit clean on the cx-5 lens.

It's reached the point where I don't care if it breaks.  I'll fix it and keep enjoying the clear view.  In 8 months and 22k km I haven't had to clean it once.

The top of the rear doors are a hard plastic vs. the softer fronts.

And I have to adjust the seat every time I get into the car.  You get used to the little pull lever.

Oh, and be careful removing dust from the gauges.  Apparently that plastic scratches if you even look at it for too long.

Really? Never noticed that in my GTI.

There seems to be a lot of comments on vwvortex about it.  I've gently used a microfiber cloth and it seemed to work fine.

Weird that there seems to be no way to unlock the doors from the rear seats...but the lined cubbies are awesome, as well as the other small features here and there.

Maybe you just pull the handle?

The 2009 Jetta (last VW I really looked closely at...) had buttons for power locks at each door...

Pull handle twice to open a locked door. Same as 2012+ focus and some other cars.

I think 2013+ jettas had a button in the centre console?

Discovery today: the golf allows for the front windshield and passenger fan blower combination. First car I've seen with that. The air control knob rotates 360 without a stopper

I like the rain sensing wipers way more than I thought I would.

AWD is nice. Especially in freezing rain.

Many Fords do that.  Escape and Edges, for sure.

Plexus works wonderfully for removing micro scratches on gauge plastic.

Yeah my 09 Civic and 08 MDX has that, too.  I actually haven't seen a car that didn't have it in my limited experience.

Really?

You can have the Front defogger on AND have the leftmost setting? Isn't the case on my family's 2008 Rondo, 2012 Focus, 2011 Corolla, and 2009 Odyssey.

See Corolla:

It'd be at the absolute bottom, between the rightmost and leftmost button.

I was surprised golf has it.

I have never had a car that had that feature either.  More important than a damn heated steering wheel if you ask me.  I think it should be standard on all cars.   But like I said, I have seen it in a few Fords.  It's not like I drive press vehicles to compare what manufacturers offer this...

You should Be able to fold the back seat completely flat.
Remove the head rest, you can pop the bottom of the seat up and foward out of the way and then the back of the seat folds down.

At least that’s how it is on my 2011

Never mind looks like they changed the system.

heated steering wheels are awesome...and my cars have an auto defogger...there is a humidity sensor in the cabin that detects when the window would start to fog up and it automatically puts the "defroster" setting on...i don't have to play with dials or push buttons (although, they are there if i want to manually activate them).
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

Personally, I wouldn't go with a roof rack unless you have actual plans on using it.  We've never once used the rack on our Fozzie (no crossbars, never needed them), and IIRC, we strapped a couch to the roof of the RX once in its 11 years with us.  Don't forget how much cargo space you now have with your ride!  :)

Bike rack on the back is a fantastic idea, OTOH

I agree.  I had a roof rack on my Fusion for carrying the kayak.  Not only was it a major pain getting the kayak on and off every time but the cross bar was noisy as hell and rendered the moonroof useless.

If you're in no rush for a roof rack keep an eye out on kijiji.  They come up pretty often in the $100-$150 range.

I went with a square Thule rack, the fit kit you want is 450.

Or, outside of ski season ours just sits in the shed and you're welcome to use it if needed.  Same goes for our roof box.

I agree with this as well.  I bought my yakima rack on kijiji and sold it 3 years later for the same amount i paid, also on kijiji.  Always seem to a few for sale.

I am sure heated steering wheels are awesome.  But I think it's more important to be to have the front defogger on, and be able to have the 4 vents at the front push hot air throughout the cabin.  The heated steering wheel can't do that.  Most mainstream cars don't do that.

Hyundais and Kias may have this auto defog system.  But like I said, I think something like this is more necessary than heated steering wheels.  Should be standard.  Heated steering wheels on the higher trims.
