Yes, the first time riding on the road is MUCH different than the training in the parking lot. I remember how close to my knees cars were that fist time out on the road. Sounds like you were out very early though to avoid too much traffic, good plan, it's stupid busy in your neck of the woods.

I'm sure some of the others here have methods to get rid of the residue, but goo be gone has worked for me in the past.

Yay!

One more (of many tips). Defend your lane.

99% of the stupid videos on youtube where the rider is blaming the car, they are riding on the wrong side of the lane, leaving a massive gap for cars to wander in. Defending your lane from intruders makes a huge difference.

Tips are ALWAYS welcome.  I was paying close attention to lane position and will continue to do so.  Also hyper aware of cars turning in front of me - so easy to get lost in the clutter and not be seen (I know this well from road cycling).

One thing I have to sit and practice is the damn turn signals - specifically, how to cancel without pushing it all the way to signal in the opposite direction.  :-[

i am not familiar with your bike, but many Hondas have push to cancel turn signals...so, slide left or right to activate, then simply push in when you are done your turn (or lane change)...check to see if yours has that (i would assume it would).
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

the bike looks great and seems "right sized" for you...big enough to enjoy for at least several years (or forever, really), but still small enough to easily manage around town without much fuss...there's nothing worse than brand new riders getting large powerful bikes for their first rides...they usually drop them, kill themselves, or both...you're being smart about it.

you took the course so you should know many of the basics, but just remember, assume no one else sees you, and don't get "lost" in the traffic (try to ride a bit faster or slower than traffic so you don't "sit" in someone's blind spot for longer than a few seconds)...you've got a really good first bike, so zipping out the way is easy enough, and it's also an agile bike so quick actions are possible (vs say, a cruiser which isn't as nimble).

and i'll say it again, that bike looks awesome...very good choice Roger.

And Gurgie yes, I did go out early to minimize traffic.

I'm late to chime in on the exhaust.  That looks awesome, as does the rest of the bike.

Have fun!

i would imagine it has it...i think every road bike in the last 20 years or so has either push to cancel (common) or auto cancel (not as common).

EDIT:  i just downloaded the manual for it...it does have it (page 52 of owners manual):

Ys, just push in (forward) to cancel. It becomes muscle memory after a while, turn corner, change gear, push push.

My bike has auto cancel.  :P

yea, a few bikes have that...they typically use a tilt sensor to detect lean angle...but it's usually only offered on more expensive bikes...as you said though, it becomes muscle memory and part of the turn signal process in short time...you don't even think about it after a bit.

Auto cancel would not be a bad thing. Remember having to explain to my wife why all those motorcycles still had their turn signal blinking away going down the street. Apparently it can be added fairly cheaply

Completely this... you won't even realize you're doing it... it will become second nature.

looking good. Soon you will be downshifting a couple of gears heading into a tight corner dropping the clutch to break the rear free and grabbing copious amounts of throttle to bring that rear out.   ;) Slipper clutch makes that tough though.

That bike looks so nicely proportioned from those angles. Or you just make the bike look good.

There might be a fuse you can pull out to disable ABS when you’re stunting in the parking lot.

It's definitely not me - I am presently Covid-proportioned.  :rofl2: it's the bike.

By the dawn's early light:

At least I know that the ugly reflectors work!

The two day second safety course wrapped up yesterday - and I passed again.  ;D  Would have been pretty sad if I hadn't.  :-X  With just 2 students and 1 instructor it was WORLDS apart from the 20-plus student experience the first time around.  For every excercise, instead of doing it 4 or 5 times, we each did it 15 or 20 times.  And I finally got to understand the mechanics of blipping the throttle on downshifts.  I also did much better in the slow speed manouvering.

So naturally, I expected to be extra awesome when I got on the CB this morning - only I was more jerky and lurchy than on my first ride by a good margin.   :-[ Then it dawned on me that I had been riding a thoroughly crapulent Yahama TW200 for 2 days straight, and had become VERY accustomed to how that bike responded to inputs.  Which did not translate well to the Honda, to say the least - particularly when moving off from a stop.  Oh well - just have to ride the heck out of my bike and get re-acclimated.  :)

Yahama, you say?  That must have been quite a knockoff.   :rofl2:

TW200 is awesome! Been in production unchanged for 35 years!

Could ride one of these to the ends of the world..albeit slowly.

Love them for what the are!

Also...get some reflective wheel rings for nights. They positively light up and are mostly invisible otherwise in the day.

Have had them on my last several bikes...I think Bob has used them too

This is the guy I use..comes in many colors.
