I hope this isn't a sign of things to come 2.0
« on: August 18, 2017, 10:48:38 pm »
Several times recently I have gone out to the garage to find the rear hatch of the X5 mysteriously open. Today I found it that way again. I clicked the close button on the fob but nothing happened. I repeated that but still nothing....as i got closer I could hear a "click-click" sound from the hatch area when i pushed the button but no movement of the hatch. Eventually I had to close the hatch by pushing the button on the tailgate. Hope I don't have MB type electronic Gremlins in my BMW.  :(
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

My understanding is the rear hatch will only close by pushing the button on the hatch itself and will not operated from the remote (at least that's how it used to be with previous model years).
Do you put your keyfob in your pocket before entering the house? Any chance buttons get pressed accidentally opening the rear hatch?

My Q5 hatch is like that.  I have never had the hatch open from the button on the key fob but I have managed to leave the car unlocked by having the unlock button accidentally pushed when I put my keys in my pocket.  Car beeps on lock but not on unlock.

That's interesting to know about it not closing with the fob.

. Yes, I suspect the key fob in the pocket thing is how it's getting opened. I've also had the panic alarm go off in the garage a couple of times when I was sitting in the family room. The fob for the X5 is very large compared to the ML or the 328 and I suspect the buttons are being pressed by other stuff in my pocket.

I'm surprised that you can't close the hatch with the remote. My MDX's power hatch closes with the remote button.
Perhaps it's some sort of safety thing?

One of these days the sat-nav voice will say "It's not you, it's me."

Remind me of a song from Dream Theater called "You not me".   :rofl2:

I mean..read these lyrics!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjj3OLc-pVo

Being 'round you is driving me crazy
Watching you run is making me lazy
You're trying to buy a place in my head
Telling me lines I've already read
Speaking my name to try to confuse me
Say it again you're starting to lose me

That's alright, I'm okay
It happens every single day
It's all the same
But I'm not blind

It's all about you
Not me
It's all about the things that you're expecting me to be
There's not enough time
To live
And all that you're expecting me to give

It's all about you
Not
Me
It's all about you
Not
Me

You're building my prison brick by brick
Eating your words is making me sick
You get what you want 'cause nothing is sacred
You're reading my mind and leaving me naked
You say I gotta give before I receive it
One of these days I'll believe it

It's all about you
Not me
It's all about the things that you're expecting me to be
There's not enough time
To live
And all that you're expecting me to give

I think this is some TUV safety thing.   I have an aftermarket thingy in the Q that enables the inside switch and the fob to close the hatch.

surely you can set the car to autolock?...that way, if the vehicle is left unlocked for a set amount of time (like a few minutes), it will automatically lock the doors?

From reading some BMW forums I would agree. Lots of talk about coding changes needed to get the fob so that it will close the hatch.

I guess this doesn't qualify as a "problem"....more of a design flaw. :-\
