That's a slick ride right there.

Are these actually on sale yet? The Mazda Canada web page still says "arriving soon".  If they don't get to dealers soon they'll be doing a year end clearance before they even get these 2017's in.  ???

What does CR say about the reliability of the CX-5. The feedback i get  (hear say from previous owners) about Mazda in general is that its either super reliable to total crap (nothing in between).

Heated rear seats but only the drivers window gets auto down? Please tell me I'm wrong.

Its quirks like that you have to live with when having a Mazda.  That, no trunk release on the keyfob, rear doors remaining locked after exiting the car, etc. are all things you'll get used to with a Mazda.

I can live with quirks. In my GTI, when getting out of the back seat you need to pull the door handle twice to open the door.  But how can a $30K car not have all 4 windows auto down.

All of these things can be fixed as they are all configurable software.  Somewhere on the VW forums should tell you exactly how.   Then I can lend you my VCDS and my laptop for an afternoon so you can play with it.

Honestly, Mazda is doing a fine job of tempting me away from Subaru - they drive very well in the snow and I love the ease of use of the HMI.  I don't know why other non-luxury brands don't go into HUDs - I love them.

That said, I wouldn't complain if the CX-5 came with the new 2.5T from the CX-9 ;D

CR gives at a 74, overall reliability of better than average, and it's recommended, as is the rest of the lineup.  To compare the Rav4 got 78, Forester got 83, CR-V NA (too new), Escape 71.

Nice little ride... wouldn't mind seeing the auto windows on all four corners... and a manual option with the 2.5AWD combo. I know a buddy of mine is considering this as a replacement for his Mazda 3 sedan, but he wants manual. Doubt the diesel will come with the stick either, but that might be his better option as is daily commute is ~200km.

I like the evolved design better than current gen. Except for the slits on the bottom of the front bumper, leaving an imbalanced look in the height on either side of the grill.

Highs and Lows
Highs:
Sophisticated ride and handling, classy cabin, expanded functionality, great curb appeal.

Lows:
Could use more power, fuel economy is only so-so.

Even my '06 Mazda 6 at least had auto up/down for both front windows.

The 2016 CX-9 didn't go on sale until Spring '16 so it looks like Mazda is doing something similar here. Kind of weird.

GS and GT prices are within a couple hundred bucks of the 2016.5 model. The GT is actually slightly cheaper than before.

Few negatives from the pictures:
- Impractical location for the heated rear seats switches (requires to lower the armrest to access)
- Windows switches are not lit (surprised how some mainstream manufactures don't grasp this basic feature in this day and age)
- The cubby in front of the gear shifter does not appear to have any lining

On the bright side, the 40/20/40 split is a very useful feature which should be embraced by more manufacturers IMO. However, the space between the wheel wells seams fairly narrow which is a limiting factor when it comes to bulky items.

Not sure what Car & Driver expects.  The fuel economy is inline with the competition, as per the EPA, and with Fuelly.

first review remarks from Driving.ca

"the CX-5’s powertrain lineup gains a twin-turbo 2.2-litre diesel engine (available later), along with the current 2.0L and 2.5L direct-injection gasoline four-cylinders. The engines are paired with either the six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. (Actually, only the base GX model will be offered with the 155-horsepower 2.0-litre and manual transmission; until the diesel arrives, all other CX-5s get the 187-horsepower 2.5L engine and six-speed automatic combo.)"

"The 2017 CX-5 starts at $24,900 for the base front-wheel-drive GX 6MT model and tops out at $36,300 for the all-wheel-drive GT with Technology package. It will be at dealerships shortly."
