Brake Discs
« on: April 24, 2017, 11:37:50 am »
Recently replaced brake discs seemed to have more clearance in the bolt holes it seemed to me. If this is the case, it makes removal a lot easier I think, especially if a bit of grease is put on the locating spigot. I think it was harder to remove discs when the the bolt hole fit was tighter. Is this the case.

No, not really. The bolt holes aren't usually where it sticks. It's the hub center that sticks.

Also,  most disc have 2 little threaded holes in them that are there to help remove stubborn discs.

Holes in discs...no...but would be nice. Fit on spigot tight...hence the grease.

Yeah the spigot is a tight difficult removal especially when rusted but tight wheel bolt holes are also a significant factor..no?

I see videos of hammers being used on the discs...not a good thing for the wheel bearings I think...especially angular contact.

Bummer about no holes in disc.

No, not in my experience. The clearance holes for bolt studs are usually 1mm (or so) larger than studs. If rusted, they usually give pretty easily.

I would think you'd want the rotors to fit snugly over the studs.  The rotor needs to be perfectly centered.

The spigot does that.

This. It's what makes the rotor hubcentric.
