Shame about the packaging with the diesel and the third row...and I agree about the position of the turn signals and reverse lights - higher up = easier to be seen.

Otherwise nice, and great output numbers for the diesel.

My assistant has a 2013 Elantra with 130,000km - just had this engine failure:
https://globalnews.ca/news/3363691/hyundai-kia-recall-1-4m-cars-in-canada-u-s-for-possible-engine-failure/

...which notably doesn't cover her engine.  This again casts doubt on my comfort in buying a Hyundai - a 2013 with engine failure despite regular oil changes...not comforting, that's for sure.

I know of half a dozen people who bought that generation of Elantra with the 1.8L engine that had multiple engine problems.  Didn't matter that oil changes and maintenance was done often there was an issue with its design.  My sister had on and was experiencing piston slap at around 3 years and 50,000 kms, they replaced a bunch of engine stuff (I seem to think the "long block also") and they were able to do it in less than a day.  Apparently it was a very common fix to the point they were proficient in doing it in record timing.  I wouldn't recommend that engine in any form simply because of the number of people I know who have had issues with it.  Not saying all their engines as problematic but this one for sure was.

This has been officially revealed now with more details. North America even gets a 2.2 diesel (like the upcoming Sorento). This is in addition to 2.4 and 2.0T engines, all with a new eight speed auto.

Note this is the short wheelbase version, but the diesel version is available with a very small third row:

Interior looks like most new Hyundais:

This looks pretty good. Wonder about the diesel output.

200 hp and 320 lb. ft. of torque with the the 8-spd auto.

Those are very impressive numbers. Me wants to take one for a spin pronto!

I'd like to be wrong about it, but suspect the cheapest diesel trim will be over 40k MSRP...
Maybe Patrick can shed some light?

Well, the 1.8L is what you're referring to, and then the 2.0L and 2.4L were the subject of the 1.4M vehicle recall...so...3 engines?

I don't like the placement of turn signal and reverse lamps in the rear bumper.  Potential repair costs will be unnecessarily big.  AND it doesn't even look good.

Cars don't have bumpers anymore, no big deal with autonomous safety features ;)

It doesn't work when it's parked and someone breaks your lights and drives away.

That article turned me off from the new Santa Fe completely. Unflattering images?

Yeah I saw videos of this car and those photos are not flattering at all.
