^^Early ones had issues.
And there's nothing like a V8. The V6 TT in the LS makes 400+HP...but I still preferred it with the V8.
don't get me wrong, i like a V8 too...i'm just saying, i'm sure if you drove the 3.5T in the new Genesis, you'd still be pretty happy.
I'm quite certain I'd be happy with the 3.5t. Having driven in the original G90 with the old 3.3t - that thing
pulled. Bigger motor here in a smaller, lighter car? Yeah. That'll do, pig. That'll do.
As for the V8 - I can say that I found it to have a lot more personality in the original Hyundai Genesis RSpec than in my generation Genesis / G80. In the former it had a bit of a dual personality and could shed its gentleman's demeanor and become a bit of a hooligan when you stomped on it. You
heard it and
felt it in that car. In the existing G80 it is all creamy goodness / effortless wafting / silent swiftness - which all makes sense in a luxury sedan but also diminishes some of the character of a V8 that makes gearheads go all doey-eyed and wax nostalgic.
It's one of the reasons (apart from price gap, which was the biggest reason) that I chose the V6 instead of the V8 at the time of purchase. Drove both back to back at least 2 or 3 times. The V8 was quicker and smoother but the seat of the pants perception of the difference was much smaller than the price gap.
All that said, it won't be long until normally aspirated motors become "exotic" just due to their rarity.
All the more reason for me to hang onto my car for a good while.
(Oh, and it was the first year of the RSpec V8 that had issues - so dating back a decade since those issues were issues.)
