Mister2 Detailed
« on: October 29, 2017, 07:55:11 pm »
Even though I've had the car since May, I finally got around to giving it a proper detail.  I got up early this morning and and spent about 7.5 hours on it today.  Paint was in pretty great shape with only some minor imperfections so a pretty easy detail overall.

Products used.

Soap - Chemical Guys Mr. Pink
Claybar - Claymagic (although it really didn't need much claying
Polish  - Menzerna Super Finish
Polisher - PC 7424 with 4" White Pad, Flex 3401 with 6" White pad
Sealant - Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant
Wheel Sealant - Poorboys Wheel Sealant
Tire Dressing - Poorboys Bold N Bright

I'll follow up with Dodo Juice Orange Crush carnauba wax in a couple of days after the sealant has cured to give the paint some added pop.  The paint, and the car in general, look pretty damn amazing with a proper detail.

Pics rather suck as my damn Nikon was on the wrong setting.

But to top it all off, I had a great cruise with my Son with the T-tops off.  Killer of a day.   8)

It looks better than brand-new.  Great work!

Man, I wish I had 7.5 hours to work on exterior alone.

I can't even wash my car at home without my 5 year old wanting to 'help'.

That paint is astonishing for its age. Old reds are usually faded out pretty badly.

Is that for reds in general or is it paint/car specific?

Reds like that tend to fade into a somewhat orangy color.

Those old non-clear reds do better if they're not winter driven.  Being covered for half the year helps.  Care is important too.  My Miata is still very red, EXCEPT UGH for the nose.  The plastic nose on the Miatas changes colour.  Some people repaint them, but I'm going to leave it.

To be clear though, the paint is definitely not original.  I don't know the exact history, but I'd put it no older than 5 years old.  The paint job is pretty damn good though, with just some minor orange peel on one panel that I'll take care of and wet sand in the spring.  The facking front plate is going in the spring as well, can't f'ing stand it.
