2005 Civic Si 4 door sedan
« on: August 18, 2017, 10:50:30 pm »
A colleague of mine is looking to buy a used car for his son.
My neighbour's daughter has a 2005 Civic Si 4 door sedan for sale for $2500. The car is fully loaded for that year with electric everything and sun/moon roof, the car has 241000 km and two months ago was registered to BC from Alberta where she moved from. This is what the Kijiji add says about the car:
" Power steering, A/C, Cruise Control, Power everything, sunroof. After market JVC bluetooth stereo. Also wired for subs. 240,900km, mostly highway. Small minor rust on right rear wheel well.
Manual transmission great on gas.
Inspection done 2 months ago. New windshield put in. Timing belt was done at 200,000km, had a new clutch put in last summer.
Also including a set of winter tires. Driven on for 2 winters still in great condition."

I have just drove the car myself tonight and the car feels very good for the age, not a single rattle or weird noise. The shifting is butter smooth and quite enjoyed it. The car looks in very good shape inside and out and pulls very nicely. It does not feel its age or the miles. The only thing that I found problematic is that the steering wheel cannot be in straight position to drive the car in straight line, I think a wheel alignment could fix that.
Also the owner admitted that every 2000 km or more a little oil must be added to the engine, however it does not have leaks.
Is this a good price? Anything that my colleague should be worried about on those civic's? I have no knowledge about civic's other than what people say about how reliable they are.

The manual tranny cars were great.

Sounds like a good buy.

if it's not leaking it, it's burning it...possibly from multiple red line runs as the fast and furious is strong with those cars...depending on where you live, blue smoke will fail emissions, and even if you don't have emissions tests, it can potentially be a problem later.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

I dunno that I would pick an Si for a 200k car.  Those things are (were) a freaking hoot and a half to drive HARD.  Needing oil every 2k is not a really good sign.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

Tell them to offer them $2g and buy $500 worth of oil when it's on sale at Cdn Tire.  Even at every 2,000 km, if it's half a liter...you'll get years outta that.  And it's a manual.  Everybody needs to learn how to drive a manual.  Well, except car thieves.

Manitoba sample (this isn't a real Si is it?  Just some guy stuck a badge on a base model, right?  ...tell me I'm right... ???  I thought the Si was the sporty one.)

If that's true, then your $2500 seems like a smokin' buy.  This guy...$3600 for same km, but with massive hail damage.  Fackme.

That generation of SI wasn't a real SI.  The fast one was the SiR.  The SI was basically just a top trim level of the regular civic, with the marginal 115hp 1.7L 4-cylinder.

It shouldn't have been driven hard at all, considering it really had nothing to give.

This is the actual add for this car

Looking at more adds this one seems a very good price.

I think you could do worse.  So you have to add oil every 2k.  Big deal.  It's $2500.  Even if you only get a year out of the car (you'll get more) you'll end up on top.

that never stopped a vast majority of the owners driving around town in 1st and 2nd gear exclusively...of course, the cold air intake and fart can exhaust really dial up the fast and furious effect to a 10.

Go for it. A great price imo and those are reliable little cars. A bit of oil useage in 2000km wouldn't deter me one bit.

Wonderful.  What a great little car for not a lot of money.  May his daughter get a few years of relatively trouble free motoring from that car.

I was looking at other Civic's of that vintage on Kijiji here in Mb...cars with more mileage and they were asking between $5-6g...your friend did well.  Awesome really.  Probably sell it to someone in 5 yrs for more than he paid for it.  They just need to put the extra (+ some) away for the inevitable timing belt in 3 yrs and drive it.

Only Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley had emissions and they got rid of it years ago.

This generation of civic was never very popular with the tuner crowd. Honda replaced the unequal length control arm front suspension with struts, the 1.7L engine as already mentioned was pretty underwhelming and aftermarket support was/is not very good compared with other generations of civics.

Yep.  I owned a 2003 LX manual Coupe, and while it was a great car, it was definitely NOT a performance car in any way, shape or form.
